VRS Estate - Top Gear review

Featured Replies

It's more or less saying "if this is the car you want then this is the car for you" lol

surprising to see the hatchback has a 25Kg ballast and is heavier than the estate. can this ballast be removed? what material is it? some concrete?

The ballast is there to get the weight distribution right so it handles better. Why would you want to remove it?

so you can add sound deadening/proofing and put in your audio equipment. The sound deadening alone can easily weigh 25Kg

edit: no i'm not talkin about putting big boxes and big speakers. my small box, 2 small amps and small subwoofer plus all the wiring weighs about 15-20Kg.

OK, fair enough, but your 25kg of equipment won't be in the right place. ;)

I prefer the estate to the hatch, dont know why, maybe because it different to anything else and probably more of a suprise to the unsuspecting.

The Fabia Estates are faster than the hatch on top speed due to better aerodynamics (lower drag CO). This also help mpg in real terms. It's only a small difference but it all helps.

I prefer the estate too but the hatch is growing on me. The estate just looks to have better proportions.

Just think of the extra fuel used driving around looking for a parking space the hatch could easily have slipped into :giggle:

If it had a manual box, softer suspension and a brighter interior I might have one :giggle:

Estate is the way to go cos you can get a dog in the boot! Sick of being denied interesting cars owing to lack of boot space :-)

so where is the ballast situated?

so where is the ballast situated?

I have no idea. If I had to guess, it will be in the floor towards the back of the car, maybe under the back seats or over the rear axle.

Positive review, if understandably questioning the target market!

This link is currently broken, but you can navigate to it from Top Gear website by searching for Fabia VRs Estate.
