Stream upgrade to phone..

Featured Replies

I have an 08 Octy Elegance with Stream MP3. I'm looking to upgrade this so I can do calls in the car more easily. I'm currently deciding between a Parrot 9200, or fitting a Bolero with a VAG bluetooth unit. I have a couple of questions regarding the Bolero/BT option.

I went through the installation guide on the VRS web site for the bluetooth unit (excellent guide, by the way). However towards the end it described in detail how you have to crimp / connect wires to connect to the existing wiring loom. However, the pictures on the guide suggested that they were connecting the bt unit to a Stream, which as far as I know is not designed to front-end phone.

If I fit a bt unit and then replace the Stream with a Bolero (which is designed for phone use) will I still have to do all the wire connections, or is there a standard connector to link the bt unit into the Bolero?

Are there any issues I should look out for in terms of compatability between VAG bt units and the Bolero?

All comments / thoughts welcome! I was originally looking at SatNav as well, but I now have this on my phone and can - as I tested at the w/e - just route the voice instructions through the Aux input. Which worked brilliantly and means one less thing to worry about!

Can't help with the wiring question, but once you have bluetooth installed you should be able to get the Nav directions via bluetooth so be able to listen to the radio etc and then have the directions cut in. Depending on the phone you may need a handsfree kit that supports bluetooth media rather than just handsfree profile, but the Parrot and the latest GSMIII both support this
