Why can't i find a guide for changing discs and pads?

Featured Replies

Done plenty of discs and pads before but just wanted to check as this will be the fIrst time ive done it on a VAG... no guides...

Is it all same - old?

Front or rear? Fronts are straight forward, rears you need a wind back tool for.

Fronts. Yeah was just wondering before I jumped in. Guessing it's just top and bottom calipers bolts out, anti rattle spring off, slide caliper off etc etc...

You can't find a guide coz they are easy both Front and rear . If you have done this before then no worries on these cars.

Tip - Use your old pads and disc's to lever the pistons back in to get the clearance to fit new pads. Saves the hassle of trying to compress the front caliper.

The Rears are wind back pistons/calipers. Do not attempt to compress them with a vice or the like. You need the VAG wind back tool

Can get that in Halfrauds.

Haynes manual 4285 - Skoda Octavia 1998 to April 2004.

Find out what caliper type you have (e.g., FSIII . . . . which yours probably aren't as it's a vRS) then google it (e.g., FSIII brake change guide). The Golf lot are quite keen on doing guides and that caliper is probably shared across loads of different VAG cars.
