i think its about 4000k to 4500k standard,

when ever i get a kit i never go above 6000k

hope this helps

OE are 4,300K.

By 'upgrading' do you mean for better light output or with a blue tint for cosmetics?

4,300K is used because it is the brightest, whitest, usable light available once you go higher than this you start to loose usable light.

I have never seen 'stock halogen' bulbs describes as 'about 4200k' this is way off!

You only need to see there is a slight difference in colour between every 1000k you go up, yet a huge difference between a std halogen and a 4,300k xenon to prove that.

I want Xenon headlights :'(

FWIW, above 6000k the "higher light temperature" is achieved by using filters to remove the red end of the spectrum, rather than by running the plasma arc hotter. This means that you actually get less light down the road, and are more likely to get a tug.

Get off your high horse, I wasn't referring to anything he said but I was commenting on the photo, look at the photo again and you will see I am being far from pedantic, just quoting what has been added to the picture.

Most halogen bulbs are around 3000K.

Most people assume that 'bigger is better' but in the case of a xenon bulb this is not true, you reach a point (4,300K) where you are at optimum light output and colour, after this it starts to decrease.

My reason for quoting the above is so potential buyers can buy the correct colour temperature bulb without following the masses who automatically think that anything between 6,000K and 8,000K is best.

Osram reckon standard bulbs are 3200K:

Since XENARC lamps operate in the range of 4100° K (XENARC COOL BLUE INTENSE even up to 5ooo° K), in comparison to 3200° K (halogen light), the colour temperature of the light is much closer to that of natural daylight; it is whiter and perceived as being brighter, contrast is intensified.

yeah if you look at the new civic they have a 5k xenon kit as standard for comparison , (only on some models i think )

always get 8000k had 2 sets before and my set for the fabia are 8000k for my xmas

As fitted they would be 4300K. However, as the capsules age the colour temperature goes up. Hence Philips produce 5000K capsules as replacement parts. A replacement 4300K capsule is likely to look "yellower" or "less blue" than a existing light that's been used for any length of time.
