Should I consider a Re-Remap?

Featured Replies

I've had my 53 VRS remapped for about 3 years or so. I had it done by Angel Tuning who came out & remapped it at my house (Generic map)

I've been fairly happy with it, performance is good - not amazing, but good. I get a little more that average black smoke when i boot it & MPG is still pretty decent.

However, are generic maps 'bad' for the engine? Should I consider a better remap or will I be wasting my money? I dont want to change the turbo or any other mod, just happy with a remap.

Thanks in advance! :)

I have an Angel Tuning 'generic' map. I put it on the rollers a couple of months back, and while the figures were not as high as some (170bhp/270lbft) the graph was very smooth, with no nasty spikes. If you are really bothered about chasing another 10bhp and spending another few hundred pounds, then only you can decide that!

I now have a PD150 turbo fitted, so I guess I should go and have it remapped again, however I'm not sure I want to spend lots of money, just to get a 'few more' bhp.

As for the smoke, my car hardly smokes at all.

Thats good to know. I wanted to put mine on the rollers & check the smoothness via a graph. So at least they havent put any old rubbish on!!

I'd say forget it. If you want to reduce smoke, try a PD160 or similar or at least, change the air filter every 10K rather than the 40K in the service book.
