Which Diesel To Use?

Featured Replies

Which diesel should I use in my new 105bhp Fabia, is Shell V power or BP Ultimate better than standard diesel?

MCH

At most you might eek out 10-20 more miles out of the more expensive stuff and you are unlikely to feel any performance gains.

In my old Fabia vrs I never saw any major difference between normal supermarket diesel and the premium stuff you are taslking about either in performance or economy.

Each to their own though, Im sure someone will be along soon to profess its benefits... :)

2mch2, sonic is correct. Either is a good choice...but the main benefit of using higher quality (meaning non-supermarket diesel) is to keep your engine and injectors clean. Supermarket diesel will run fine in your new car but over time it will degrade you performance and dirty your engine internals (injectors, valves, pistons) much more quickly than other better quality diesel. The better quality stuff has more 1st grade engine cleaning additives which make a huge difference over time and it will lubricate your High Pressure Fuel pump more effectively. Your new CR1.6 fuel pump relies on good quality diesel to lubricate it's bearings. Supermarket diesel doesn't have the same lubricating qualities and can lead to pump failure more quickly. At a cost of over £1000 each you don't want that to happen. Don't ask me how I know this!!

what about non supermarket and non premium fuel, such as regular fuel from esso, texaco, total, etc.

Oh dear god no, not another supermarket fuel versus premium posting.......I cant take another one.

Can anyone save us by posting the link to the supermarket fuel topic ?

This argument will go on and on as to which is the best.

As for common rail engines not liking supermarket/ cheap fuel and they will explode I drove a company Peought CR Diesel where my allownce was less than the cost of fuel, I put the cheapest fuel in I could find and when it went in (as I left) it had in excess of 95000 faultless miles on the clock. I have just traided in a Citroen Common Rail Diesel also run on cheap diesel, it had in excess of 65,000 faultless miles. I cannot tell you about higher milages as my old employer's policy was to replace a company car at or just after 90K - and I tracked mpg very closely.

Just try different fuel and don't forget it takes two to three full tank fills before you will know how your car will run on the fuel of choice.

According to the manufacturers and Diesel car mag and various others, it's fine. Just supermarket stuff to be wary of.

Utter tosh.

It's called clever marketing.

BP Ultimate and Shell V Power are premium grade fuels.

Standard Tesco, BP, ASDA, Shell, Total, Sainsbury's, Texaco, Esso etc. is identical.
