Strangly enough Microsoft didnt have a problem with me having purchased it when I rang them with problems (even if they couldnt fix it :rolleyes: )

Did you actually tell them that you didn't buy it with a computer? I'm sure they would've much rather you'd bought the retail version... ;)

Yes I did, where I bought it and how much.

However, its bitten me back simply because it now wont update as its a year old, and MS are following the line that its probably asking for the PC makers code or something.

Anyway, I,m not to upset about it, as I intend to buy the full retail XP Home edition relatively soon now anyway (after all the grief I have had)

Well...suspect most people in MS call centres are pretty disinterested anyway - most of the ones I've spoken to are...

I've never come across a PC maker's code on OEM copies... :rubchin:

Had me foxed...

Still 45 minutes on their help line to India cost me a nice bit..so they got me back :rolleyes:

Yeah, on an 0870 number it adds up! Found there call centre to be pretty inconsistent - one time I phoned up complaining of a software key not being accepted, they just gave me a different one to use. Another time, phoning up about the same thing, they told me to try it again in a few days... :rolleyes:
