Hi all,

looking up winter tyres and most common ones seem to rate speed at H some are higher but availablity is zero. as H is rated to 130mph, these would be ok on the car? obviously no such speed would ever be used. tyre makers to state on website(such as avon) that winter tyres usually rate lower and are fine as long as speed isnt exceeded.

any advice guys? also anyone found a cheap online supplier? usual places such as mytyres etc have bumped their prices

might have iunsurance implications if using lower rating then standard from manufacturer.

I believe the tyre has to be the correct rating for the car in question. Check insurer to be sure.

surely as long as you dont drive faster than the tyre rating you are ok?

yeah the car hasnt been getting used hence the late hunt for tyres :(

You'll be lucky mate, without paying through the nose for them!

As said, an H-rating will be OK as you'll not be autobahn storming with them

Just make sure the load index is correct too.

My L&K Estate 140TDI is fitted with Bridgestones which are 91W rated if thats of any help.

They run pretty quiet too....better than Pirellis & Continentals ..... they were really quiet today ........ can't get off driveway!

Last winter I paid £500 for a set of cooper weathermaster in 225/40 18 for the vrs

I think £500ish is the going rate for winnies buying in winter- probably save £100 buying in September

Having bought some for my Octy in October, I've just bought some 225 55 16s for my wife's focus, £480 incl. steelies. I'd recommend winter tyres to anybody who needs to drive - it will transform your car in winter conditions. They are very impressive

I'm getting some Uniroyal Rainsports in the spring..better all rounders than the Vredesteins
