Remap advice

Featured Replies

Advice needed please..........

I've recently bought an 05 Plate 1.8 VRS. The car is in great nick and has only done 42k with FSH. I got it from a main dealer so it should be cosha :-)

I am thinking of getting it re mapped. I'm looking at the remaps which are switchable eg. Shark Performance STS and Revo e-motion as I have a 12 month warranty on the car.

Has anyone had any experience with these re maps or can anyone offer general advice on remaps. The car is standard at the minute except for a Piper exhaust.

I've been told that remaps can shorten engine life???????

The engine life will be more affected by HOW you drive it than the ultimate power. If you are concerned about a switchable remap for warranty reasons, be aware that there are still ways of telling even when the car's back at 'standard', and even if you don't want the dealer to know, you will have to inform your insurer if you don't want to be driving round with invalid insurance (not a wise move with the roads like they are ATM!)

In fact, with a stainless exhaust fitted, I wouldn't be surprised if it had already been remapped TBH...

I have just put a deposit down mate on the shark performance STS remap, ill keep you informed how i get on with it etc if you like.

Cheers Paul, Let me know how it goes mate!!!

I can't comment on the revo. But I've got a shark performance map (no sts) and it's excellent!

The car drives/acts as standard until you press the loud pedal which is when the fun begins

Quite a few others have the shark map aswell and it gets nothing but good reviews so you can't go far wrong.

The sts also acts as a diagnostics tool should you ever get any lights on the dash you can get the fault code and clear the lights rather than pay extortionate garage prices.

More info regarding the sts can be found on shark performances website or give Ben a call for a chat B)

Cheers mate. I was looking at Shark anyway 'cos they're in Mansfield. I'm in Lincoln, so they're only 30 minutes away :)

I have a shark map with an STS and like si said, it's like standard, until you bury the pedal, then it's smooth power all the way round the rev gauge B)

If you're from Lincoln, feel free to come along to the xmas meet tomorrow night - Link We might even be able to get a (mini) convoy going

I put a total of 180K on two remapped octy mk1's, other than the usual bits that go, Maf, water pump, temp sensors, etc never a problem, no issues with the clutch or gearbox either.....and I like to drive them hard from time to time! go for it you won't regret it!

Anyone know how much a shark remap will do to the 0-60 time?????

Congrats on your new purchase mate.

I got mine back in august and am loving it… still taking the long way home from work ;)

I’m getting mine remapped by Shark Performance in the new year… just hope this snow n ice f**ks off so I’ll be able to give it a proper test.
