New member with Scout coming in January

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'm a new member, currently driving a Toyota Avensis Estate. Living in a rural area I have finally given up trying to dig my way out of of house & village and will take delivery of my Octavia Scout in January.

Can any current Scout owner tell me how they have been getting on in the current snow and ice ?

Does the car need winter tyres and if so which ones & on what rims ?

Or will the factory fitted tyres cope ?

All advice welcome

Can't help with advice I am afraid, but I have the same car on order too. Ordered it a week ago and advised it will not be with me until May. Can you tell me, how long were you told delivery would be and was the estimation accurate? If you have a look on youtube and search Octavia Scout there are a few vids on there which show the cars capabilities, though any mods such as snow tyres will not be obvious.

Good luck with the new car, I also have an 06 Octavis VRS estate which I really like, though I shall be giving it to my wife as soon as the Scout arrives!

Welcome to Briskoda

Hi and welcome aboard.

I also ordered one last week and was told 26 weeks, but it could be longer due to limited availability of Diesel CR units.

I received my Scout TDI in June 2010. Have found the car ok on normal wheels and rims in the deep slush and non compacted snow up to 5 cm, but in deeper snow and on compacted snow I think the car really requires winter tyres especially on slopes.

I have played aroudn with the TCS Setting it to on and off so as to lock ( on ) and unlock ( off ) the locking diff but that does not seem to do anything.

I wish I had winter tyres and steel rims - as hidden curbs in the snow are not nice for the polished rims that come standard and that when damaged ( unlike normal coated alloys ) cant be repaired.

As for winter tyres my experinece from living in Europe is they are good, as noral tyres doent work properly in any weather below +9 oc but in the UK winter tyres are expensive as not many people buy them ( economy of scale ) - as for a brand they are all good in the snow but not all are good when it is dry - I used to smell the rubber getting hot on the ones fitted while in Europe. Also winter tyres can stuff you fuel consumption.

See for ref on winter tyres http://www.adac.de/infotestrat/tests/reifen/default.aspx use http://babelfish.yahoo.com/ to translate

Hi

Had an Octavia scout now for 3.5years with a new one on order. Live in central scotland area, the car has been used every day without fail and my house is on a very steep slope. Some areas have been over 30cm and I have had no problems negotiating, the car has been run on normal wheels and tyres.

Enjoy.

Do you set the TCS to On or Off when in deep snow?

Any tips much appreciated.

TDI Scout came with Dunlop SP Sport 01 225/50 R17 94W not sure it that made any difference, never run a car with Dunlops before.
