Scout would 215 55 17 be ok ?

Featured Replies

Bit of a panic here so starting a new thread. Local tyre place can fit me some Nokian WR's for £100+VAT.

They are 215 55 17 though.

Would this be OK for the Scout ?

Would I have problems with the insurance because of the rolling radius ?

Best to ring your supplying dealer I reckon, if you need a definite answer sharpish. Also worth looking on the filler cap of the Scout, to see if pressures for that tyre size are listed.

Just seems an odd size to me, as mentioned earlier. Perhaps that's why they have stock available in this size! 215/50/17 would seem more logical to me.

I think "50" is max recommended.

so all of these would be fine as far as insurance co.s go with different wheels as they are recommended by skoda?

As Skoda have recomended these combinations they should be fine with the ins co. I was a bit surprised with the speed rating.

yes, especially as they come with W rated tyres from the factory

I am absolutely sure that 225/50/R17 is also approved (with snowchains forbidden).

I would hope so,that's the standard factory fitted size.

It's also the size of the Michelin winter tyres on my Scout and they are fantastic. Yes, 16" tyres were cheaper but not after I'd added in the cost of new wheels and a potential argument with the insurance company because the car would then be non standard.

Evening All,

I have just recently had a set of Nokian WR G2 225/50/17 fitted to my car and it has transformed the handling from the Dunlop Sport 01. I relied on Mytyres.co.uk to give me the correct size for my car, and as an earlier post states, this size is a like-for-like size swap with the Dunlops. For the price you have been quoted, I would snap them up sharpish as I was quoted £165 plus vat, total outlay was £705. That will teach me to buy winter tyres in the winter!! Evens so, I still consider them to be money well spent, average temperature across Glasgow over the last few weeks has been -5C and below. I am now a winter tyre convert, especially after my usual 50 commute from work took 14hours a few weeks back.

its not just the speed rating to consider with the insurance companies, the load rating needs to be considered, which is '94' on OE tyres
