Load signal wire. REPAIR. Couple of issues in doing so.

Featured Replies

Hi.

Snow cleared enough for me to get underneath and look at the load signal wire.

I found it at sure enough 1 of the wires was broken...

Trouble is, the wire has snapped really close to the plug.

Also the wire that has snapped seems about 1" shorter.

So...

1) Best options of re-joining the short wire...

2) What wire can i use to lengthen them to ensure it doesnt snap again...

3) How do i get the plug off? Think it will be easier to sort out the plug if its in my house in the warm :)

Thanks.

Craig.

I took the plastic plug off, soldered a 10 cm piece of same size cable to the existing wire then soldered it to the connector situated in the plastic plug.

Had to cut away a bit on the plug to get to the contact but after soldering, crimping and sealing it and then plugging it back onto the starter motor its been fine.

Did it 2 months ago after breaking on me.

You may find Skoda sell the plug as a separate part..

I had to do mine in the summer and it was sooooo close, I had less than a CM to re-join..looks like you've got nearly nothing though.. I couldn't find a way of opening the plug to re-cable.. but for some reason I have the feeling that they're one way jobbies rather than moulded on so a new plug would let you use a length of new cable before you hook it all up?

If you have the tools you can remove the "timer plug" pins from the connector and then lengthen the wires and put new pins on them..

Personally I just cut the wire out of either plug, strip it back and solder in a short length of new wire, fixed once and wont break again.
