Engine cooling fan

Featured Replies

Not kicking in at all, noticed the temp creep up past the half way point so put heaters on and then fine, then left for a while, got in and did another journey, got a few miles from home and the temp warning light came on on the dash, pulled over, heard strange knocking/rattling noise coming from behind temp switches in the car, turned out it had spewed out nearly two litres of water/coolant... fans went cold too...

Filled up with water, fans got hot again, noise went but its still overheating, looked for fuse that controls the fan, couldnt find it in manual, so took them all out and they are all ok, even the ones on the battery...

Anything this could be, or what's it most likely to be, fan, thermostat??

cheers

BUMP - since this was showing no views...

Could be a variety of things - me being non-technical on such matters will remain silent for now - but would note that once/before you solve it you'll need to put proper coolant in, not just water which in Glasgow might freeze rather readily at present...

cheersfor your reply/pm dave, might have to do that wee trick but for now, i think it has fixed itself... i went straight to halfrauds too and bought some coolant, just took it for a wee run to get it round the system too, but think i need more water out and coolant in...

But just as that kind of fixes itself, the bloody fuel cap is frozen shut, and i pulled the cable out in frustration in the boot area, how do i go about fixing this problem now also...

I go on holiday in a few hours and would like this filled with fuel for when i get home incase when i'm away there is a fuel shortage or more bad weather when i get home!!

Cheers

It just clips back in again - I pulled mine out accidentally trying to find out how to help someone else out. Didn't seem to be in very firmly...

Aye did a search on google for briskoda and found nothing, something anewman posted on a really old thread hinted me towards the tech section

Got it fixed now, just a frustrating car today :'(
