HELP........... Electrical Problem

Featured Replies

Looking for help as the dealership are scratching their heads. My 2007 2.0tdi Superb showed issues with its central locking, interior lights and door adjar light staying on. Water ingress I thought. However found out it had blown a fuse so dealership replaced. Within a day blew again so replaced again. This time interior lights would not go on when door open, nor the puddle lights. Water ingress I thought again. Into dealership and they have checked and bone dry. They discover the convenience ECU is blown.

I have only had it 6 or so months so still under Skoda used car warranty. This car has has only done 14,000 miles and like brand new.

The dealership check and see that the rear nearside door when opened is showing 8 volts when the remaining three doors just 1 volt. They order door mechanism and window mechanism. Both are repalced and no good. They also see that the rear nearside reading light is showing fluctuating voltage. They are at a loss and are looking at wiring diagrams to try and determine the cause. They have a new convenience ECU, but don't want to plug it in until sure it will not blow.

It has been with dealer for a week so am hoping all will be covered with Skoda warranty but can't be sure until fully diagnosed.

Can anyone help as to what the issue is or what I should be considering in relation to help to sort?

Quickly loosing faith in what I thought was an excellent car and would gladly trade at this moment in time! PLEASE HELP.

It still is an excellent car in your opinion...let the skoda dealer and the warranty find out what the problem is....they supplied the car and they should find the problem fairly soon....it could be some corroded wires in the conveinience ecu loom and quite possibly they will have to check again, but i dont see why one should have to tell the dealer where else too look, as they are supposed to have all the latest diagnostic tools at hand in order to find the problem and effect the repair themselves. Its only after they begin to run out of idea's that then maybe you can possibly reject the car or maybe trade it in...it could be something fairly simple, but untill they find it, it could be a bad earthing area, or indeed the ecu. I seem to recall that sometimes bad joints within the conveinience ecu can cause problems and give the same senario that your car is displaying...hope it gets fixed very soon

Yeah, you're right. I trust this dealership as I have used them for a long time. I feel for them as there is nothing worse. They just want to get sorted. Also concerned Skoda warranty play silly with me in relation to standing good for cost. Of course, noone will commit due to not being diagnosed. Very nerve racking and am sure once found, will more than likely be the simplist of things, hence hoping someone has had similar experience.

Cars...... just too complicated nowadays!

Yes the days of feeler guages and points and condensors are all gone.....though i do miss the working on the older cars and the basic simplicity of their workings...todays engines, like you say, you need to a boffin in order to work out what is actually wrong !!...but in principle, i would say about 80% is mainly self diagnosis to curing the problem, and the other 20% is computer related diagnosis, which is what stumps most of us motorists, as we dont possess the equipment needed in order to find out the faults logged in the car's computer.

The other problem is the sheer expense involved, especially if one doesnt have a warranty these days, and to be charged more for labour rates per hour than what i earn in a day is simply beyond belief...think i might invest in some electronic tools in order to find out what codes are being shown and go from there.

Progress. Seems to be a faulty offside mirror. Electrics are shorting. Apparently water ingress to mirror.

I had phoned Skoda and they reassured me that the liklihood would be warranty and even if not would be happy to consider good will gesture as car should not be experiencing this. I will let you know how it goes.

I pick it up tomorrow, awaiting a new mirror unit.
