Wafting is good

Well, I've had one of Skoda UK's Superb 140PS SE Estates all week and it goes back tomorrow.

I normally drive an Octavia PD TDi vRS and so the Superb is quite a different car and I'm surprised how I've taken to it!

The ride and smoothness of the drive train is a revelation! All my cars for the last 15 years have been 'sporty' with hard suspension. Given my mileage, the well damped and sprung Superb, I've deiced, is the way to go!

The equipment in the SE is fantastic, especially the optional Bluetooth and the interior is such a nice place to be. 61mpg on a tight engine on a 300 mile round trip was welcome too.

However, the company car list changed over the weekend - Skoda must be putting their prices up - and now I can only have the S version which is a bit spartan so it looks like my affair with he Superb will be short lived.

I've looked into the costs of buying one with a cash allowance but the way our company works is that we get a good lease amount but a pittance for the cash allowance.

So it looks like the next car will be a Passat SE estate which is still on the list (stronger residuals probably reducing it's whole life lease cost). I've not driven one yet (they are only available from 1st Jan I've been told). I just hope it is as nice to drive as the big Skud :D

I do like the look of the new Passat...

Steve, if you can afford to wait a short while before ordering your lease car, do so. I ordered mine through our company car scheme and Lex Autolease. I always knew i wanted a Superb, I just hoped that i'd be able to order an SE spec, 170PS diesel engine, with enough allowance left over to add on a metallic paint.

When i did my first quote, i couldn't afford that. I was allowed the engine & spec, but the metallic paint tipped it over the edge! I tried a few days later and the prices had gone up even more, meaning i couldn't even order the 170PS engine! I was absolutely gutted.

Then I tried again at the start of the following week... the prices had dropped a huge amount for some reason! It was letting me add so many extras i eventually decided to give up on the metallic paint althogether!! Instead i went for KESSY, heated seats, etc and i stuck with the white paint (which has grown on my massively since, having searched the internet far & wide for pictures!).

So my point is - don't rush into a decision. Keep checking the prices if you can. An SE spec'd Superb is WAY better value than a Passat. And all the reviews say, even when you rule out the "value" aspect of the decision, it's simple a better car.

Good luck mate.

Good advice that, thanks. the prices do jump around but the VAT increase and the New Year Skoda price rise seems to have scuppered me. I'm just worried that the Passat SE suddenly jumps out of band.

Steve

Surely on a company car lease, the VAT increase should be irrelevant.

Cheers

Steve

My other half works in our fleet department, when I ordered my 2.0SE 140bhp she got me a good deal if i had it in white, 5p under my budget.

But now only having the car 3 weeks, for the same money with LEX I can get or could get a 2.0SE 170 DSG, :'(

There prices go up and down every week. see if you can hold out.

Not the way our comany and Lex seem to wangle it :(

When you lease a company car, HMRC rules allow only 50% of the VAT to be reclaimed in most cases.

Hi,

Was this using the Lex internet quote facility?
