Starting Problem

Featured Replies

My 2 year old Octavia 2 ,1.9 tdi, manual transmission, only 30000km done, from past 5-6 months showing some kind of starting difficulty. Doubted my battery first, but found absolutely alright. This difficulty never happens when engine is cold or even if starting after 2 weeks rest . This happens random, but now it started increasing. But some times or manytimes it may not happen .Once if it fails to start it may not start for next 3-6 starts. This happens with a different noise and vibration and seems like engine refusing to start. All other parameters are alright..While running there is no problems at all. Economy and performance satisfactory.Kindly advice.I am a marine engineer having enough Mech/Elect knowledge

I presume it is petrol, sounds like flooding or, fuel supply problem, may be fuel filter needs cleaned.

It might help if you state which model, engine etc you have. Also have you had the vehicle scanned for any fault codes? That may help to put you in the direction of what the fault is?

From this I would thought that the vehicle was:

A two year ol Octavia II

With a 1.9 Litre. Tdi ( Diesel ) engine.

Manual Transmission

I posted this when the op hadnt stated it in the post. Must have been some time delay uploading to the server? But thank you for pointing it out to me;)

Have you checked your glow plugs?

Do you have problem starting the car when the engine is hot? That's the battery problem. I had the same problem several months ago. When the engine was cold, no problem starting. When the engine was hot, it was getting increasingly difficult to start. After I changed the battery no problem ever since. There is a thread about this before, you can check it out.

You are correct. Only few people understand and recognize correctly. Thanx..

Have you checked your glow plugs?

They have no role since this happens in hot condition.

tdi indicates its diesel

Would have helped if you'd included that important bit of information in your original post, at the time of posting rather than in an edit 25 minutes later rather than just picking holes in the replies people make trying to help you when you've not actually told them all the info required
