Bolero system SD input

Featured Replies

Hi all. I am new to Skoda (I have Mk2 Octy Vrs Petrol). I have on order a Octy Scout which comes with a Bolero touch screen stereo I believe? My dealer reckons that it will take a maximum of 16 Gb SD card but I think it will take up to 32 Gb anyone have a Bolero using 32 Gb card?

Also (and more importantly) I plan to get a card set up ready for the collection of the Scout (In May) :-( I am an Ipod user and have no experiance with the use odf Sd cards. I have an SD card slot in my PC and am confident of being able to move music about ( I am fairly computer lierate). As an Ipod user I am used to using Itunes, can I use this to cut n paste music across to the SD card? I suspect the files will be in the wrong format (MP4) but would welcome advice.

I guess I may have to use folders on the SD card for each artist, and sub folders for albums, is this correct? Will I be able to move music across from Itunes onto the SD card?

If Itunes is not an option then do I need to pop every CD into my computer and create folders before copying them onto the SD card? I certainly hope not!

Thanks in advance,

Cyril

First of all welcome along.

Have a read of this thread

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/183880-itunes-users-and-columbus-sd-function/page__p__2204935__fromsearch__1entry2204935

And:

With the help of this fourm I used it to create MP3's then used the MP3 folder Structure software(Sebass.org). Then used the playlist creator 3.6.2(Odd Gravity) to create playlists at the beginning of the SD Card along with a single MP3.

The card and navigating work sooooooo quickly now.

Its odd to look at on the PC but works a treat in the car.

My SD card looks like this:

Drive:\1\2\3\4\5\6\7\A\Arctic Monkeys\HumBug\Cornerstone.mp3 etc etc etc

Artist A.M3U

Alternative.M3U

80's.M3U

Pyro.MP3

So there are quite a few folders before the Artist and MP3 but it just works so quickly now. The only thing you see on the Card when on the stereo is the Playlists and the one MP3 you put in the root.

Set up your playlists however you want.

That is great, the file structure is a little confusing but I am sure I will be able to work it out.

Have read through as many threads as I can and understand that an MP3 in the route speeds up the search aspect.

I have downloaded the converter already and will (if allowed too over Christmas) have a play with it, though it looks simple. I plan to move several albums across to the SD card and have the function of playing the album, or having a playlist of favourites. Itunes allows multiple playlists which do not duplicate tracks (and take up extra space)

I guess this is incorrect for SD cards ie. each playlist will have a copy of the album track, thus taking up extra space?

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply.

Cyril

Nah the playlist is just a playlist file.

the actual song is only on the card once.

the folder structure does not make sense having a folder in a folder in a folder etc

when you look at the sd card on the bolero you only see the playlists and what's on each playlist not the folders.

I have playlist for each artist starting with A, B, C etc

and then a few other ones for what i'm listening to now.

confusing to look at on the pc but on the bolero its really simple.

Any other questions just ask me.

Thanks for that,

I have created a folder on my desktop, into which I have created a subfolder for artist and in that a subfolder for album.

I have then converted all the album tracks from MP4 to MP3 having selected the folder for them to be placed. Seems fairly straight forward, though with the amount of music on my Itunes (5600 tracks taking up 20.75 Gb) I may have to cull my tunes a wee bi or I shall be spending days creating folders and converting music!

Going to be a wee bit difficult making sure I get it right as I don't get the Octy Scout till May so won't be able to try it out.

I do have an SD slot in the Mki 9200 Parrot in my Vrs which I shall (Hopefully) be able to use to check that the SD card is working ok.

Thanks for your help, I shall crack on converting and should have the card ready for May! Lol

Have a good Christmas

You need to create a folder called 1 and in that folder called 2 and in that one another called 3 and in that one another called 4 and so on until you have created folder 7, in that one create your artists or the artist starting letter and then artist.

So if I loook at my SD card in windows explorer and navigate all the way down to Kings of Leon it looks like this in the address bar:

F:\1\2\3\4\5\6\7\K\Kings Of Leon\Come Around Sundown\Radioactive.mp3

Does this make sense?

Prolfe

oh and if you see this after christmas - hope you had a nice one.

Perfect sense now. Took wee while for it to sink in, must be the G and T's I had for lunch! Lol.

Because it is not logical to create 7 Directories in which to hide your music it just did not sink in straight away!

Just to check, in F:Drive it should read as follows

F:\*.mp3\1

where * is any mp3 track as it must have a track in the route in order to speed it up?

I have to say, the touch screen Bolero sounds like an absolute gem but the Ipod in the Parrot Mki9200 is far easier to set up and use!

I have the Parrot in the Vrs, and same one being fitted pre delivery on the Scout. The SD option is much cheaper in as much as myself and the other half can create our own cards, duplicate them and keep one SD card each in each car as we do on occasion swap cars over depending what we are up too.

The only thing I am not clear on now is how to create playlists. I understand they are files. But how are they created and where in the directory structure are they stored?

Don't worry about answering these questions right now, it is after all Chrimbo Eve!

Thanks for your help on this, it takes a while for my old brain to catch up!

Have a good one and I will hope to catch up soon, will let you know how I get on!

Cyril

your drive should look like this:

F:\1

F:\playlist A.m3u

F:\playlist Kings of leon.m3u

F:\any.mp3

Where folder 1 contains all music from folder 7 onwards

I use playlist creator 3.6.2 to create the playlists. I point it to the f:\ drive and the folder i want created and it does the rest.

Thanks for your help, spent couple of spare hours setting up a directory as per your advice, converted a lot of my Itunes library into MP3 (320 bitrate, hope this is ok) and set it all up.

I have managed to create a playlist after a bit of a battle (I dragged all 220 tracks across and THEN found I needed to create a target directory FIRST as the "save too" box was greyed out! Ended up have to start again but all a learning curve!

Biggest problem I had was trying to keep the folder size down. at present (and with some aggressive deletions) I am down to 31.6 GB! Hoping this will be ok on the card and in the Bolero, though that has only taken up a handfull of hours and my new Scout does not come until May. :'(

Will order a couple of SD cards when the holidays are finished, I shall be able to copy my library across to one of them and have a play on the Parrot in the vRS.

Do you (Or anyone else for that matter) Know of a decent on line shop for SD cards (16 or 32 Gb) Are there any pitfalls to buying them (IE any that don't work correctly in Bolero)?

Thanks again for all your help, I shall let you know how it all goes when the new car arrives ) (Hoping it won't be delayed past May)

Cheers,

Cyril

I "argosed it" for mine. Look under photography.

class 6 or above and branded will be good enough. Like me a black one would look best in situ.

:giggle: Thats grand, thanks again for your help, I shall have a look for an SD card over the coming weeks. Will have a look in Argos too, thanks Paul.

Cyril

I have a "60" octy vrs with Bolero i just loaded all my music from my itunes file straight onto my SD card and it works fine, each individual cd is listed on the bolero and i just click go down to the one i want and playit. The randomise function only seems to work for each folder/cd not for the whole card but i can live with that. I did put an xmas folder on with various xmas songs from various cd's and that worked just fine.

I'd be very surprised if you need all the playlists and hiding in deep folder structures. New cars have the newer firmware which works fast with a normal folder structure - does in mine anyway (late 2010 car).

I use 7dayshop

There good for SD cards, batteries etc. Very quick service

Thanks,

will give them a look now.

  • 3 weeks later...

With regards to the SD file structure you can download a piece of software that sorts it all and puts it into playlists - http://www.lfsv.dk/diverse/setup.zip

I've downloaded it and it works brilliantly.

New to the site, not a great techie and with apologies if I have not recognised what may be applicable to my situation.

I am looking at this subject because I am trying to copy my Itunes music library to a 16gb SDHC card. Having created a new folder and then copied that (ie the music) to the card, the Bolero unit on my new Octavia returns a "card error". This I think might be caused by it having the wrong format. My Itunes preferences menu shows that CDs are uploaded with AAC encoding. If these are downloaded onto the SD card with an MP3 coding will that be accepted? The big question is how to convert.......or do I have to upload all my CDs again with the correct coding? I do see programs advertised for all sorts of music conversions, but for a 1-off there must be an easy no-cost way surely. Thanks guys for any pointers.

13 March now and all sorted..............main thing is to convert your files in Itunes to MP3 format, then easy to transfer to SD card by artists/albums etc. Blinding rate of transfer......very impressive
