Red Temp light Flashing?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, been a while since Ive had a problem.

Due to the miles I am doing, I fear I am killing my beloved vRS. she has been a tad neglected recently but that should be changing soon when I have enough to get a Fabia vRS in the next 2 months due to me being offered a full time job with Tesco in Avonmouth, finally got a full timer after leaving the Army back in May 2009. (agency driving was not the best)

The trouble I am having started on Thursday.

Due to the snow last friday in Cardiff, when I came home from work I only managed to get within 1 mile of home before having to park the car up and walk. there she stayed till the saturday/ sunday morning when I went to work(big mistake as the road s were still fill of snow even the A48) when I went home again I just left the car in Sainsbury's carpark till Tuesday when I finally got her home. went to work that night and all was ok. started her up Thursday to go out and after about 1 min I got a bleeping and the red temp warning flashed up? even though it was stone cold. I stopped it and checked it all over and everything seemed fine, thought the coolant had gone but on closer inspection it is fine. started it up again today and the same happened, after stopping and starting again everything seems fine.

what is this likely to be?

I am going to be doing a small ervice on the car between xmas n new yr as its the only time Ill get before I start work for tesco in the New year.

The cam belt was changed a few K before it should of been as it needed a service so thought might as well get it all done. I asked for a new Water pump to go in so that has been done by a dealer.

sh is on 91k atm and variable service.

cant wait to get a fabia vRS so I can rest the Octavia and sort her out.

chees for any help guys.

oh and its a flashing red temp light, wave lines under a key shape.

I had the same problem about a month ago - try taking the cap of the coolant tank (when cold) and scraping the sensor prongs with a flat bladed screwdriver to try and remove any corrosion - worked for me

Yep, nothing to worry about,. As alexandjen stated it'll be the the sensor prongs fouled up.

just out of curiosity, the coolant levels light is the same as the temp light isn't it,

I.e.

I had it flash after I'd changed te thermostat, was just the coolant level a bit low. Topped up and all is well,

Cheers guys,

Level seems ok and it looks fairly clean in there just a bit cloudy. Really could do with giving it a change.

Cheers again

Why not try disconecting water header tank unit or maybe water level just down a bit & when engine starts it draws water down a bit & as temp comes up water exspands & switch light off ?

replied to 1 similar to this already. had same sort of prob. then oil light came on. i changed oil level senor and all is good. this sensor interacts with the temp sensor. my temp sensor sempt to come on when i gave a little gas. does the temp gauge go up then down every so often?

mine doesnt mate,

Its been fine since the snow went lol, I rubbed the 2 metal spikes in the tank the other day to clean them off even tho they looked clean. Need t get some coolant really as it needs changing but this is last on my list of to do at the mo as I just need her back on the road.

Ive heard if the temp goes up when putting load on the motor it could also be the water pump? some times the fins break off and go into the system, a mate I used to shoot with in the army had a vRS and he had that problem.

good luck mate.

billy

ps

that was not to scare you. so long as the pump was done with the cam belt that should not be a factor.
