Uprated intercoolers....

Featured Replies

Once I've had my full Milltek exhaust system fitted I'll be looking at uprating the intercooler next, I'll most likely be buying a forged one and seel they do an uprated side mount which replaces the standard one and also the front mount one, now the front mount one works out more expensive but will it give any gains or improvements over an uprated side mount one??

I'm still new to modifying turbo cars lol.

the front mount is larger so will give you better cooling over the forge sidemount but the forge side mount gives good gains over standard

all depend on how you drive the car?? if you got the money then front mount all day long it will give better sustained cooling wich in turn will give better bhp across the board and should stop any heatsoak but again depends on how you drive the car. if you dont give it a thrashing or track it then the side mount might be just fine

I like to use the power it has but I don't think I'd ever track it, are there any other front mounts available for the Octavia that are easy to fit that don't require loads of modifications??

there are a few around

forge

pro alloy

abd

etc etc good ones are all around the £500 mark forge you can get for £550 to £600

the forge is easy to fit and works very well indeed and well worth the money and looks good if you open the front bumper up to

Aren't FMIC's only worth having if you remap the ECU to stage 2? Or am I just talking rubbish?

no not really as the car will always suffer from heat soak and high inlet temps as standard or stage 1 just with the increase in boost and the hight power heatsoak becomes more of a problem at stage 2

As Clive says, a decent FMIC will always be better than a SMIC, and the more the turbo is wound up (stage 2) the more it will ulitimately be restricted by heatsoak.

For OEM turbo vRS's the Forge FMIC is excellent, and I wouldnt look any further!

If you're considering going KO4 hybrid / IHI or bigger get the ProAlloy.

Reading all these comments and thinking to myself i have now owned my octavia vrs for a month and just realised they have an intercooler!!! mines remapped to 215bhp with a miltek exhaust system and have also been weighing up the options, but for now i might look at the uprated side mounts... now i know they have one haha. While im on does any one Know the gains on using a panel intake filter and will it affect the mass air flow meter and cause engine management problems?? plz give me any info you can thanks guys!!!!

K&N, Piper or Green panel filters will be fine and won't set the engine light off-just don't oil the filter!!
