About to order: what do you think of this config'?

Featured Replies

Hi, all, new here. I have just sold my Mk6 Golf GTI and am looking for a complete change. I really like the look of the Yeti and am thinking of the following configuration. Any advice/opinions?

- 140hp TDI 4x4

- white

- intermediate 'Ambition' trim (don't want leather)

- grey cloth sports seats (I have not been able to find pictures of the red ones mentioned in the brochure - can anyone help?)

- xenon lights (worth the cost?)

- sunroof (nice, but $$$!)

- off-road pack

I believe the sports seats are unavailable in the UK, but does anyone have any feedback? Here's a photo.

Are there any other must-have options to go for? TIA ;)

Front and rear parking sensors - very useful

The automatic reverse parking, I have only used it 2 times in 1 year

Sunroof - great

Bolero radio - excellent

Cruse control

If you have the spare wheel, then the boot space is reduced.

Towbar prep kit - it saves a load of hassle if you are going to fit a towbar

I'd have specced the sports seats if they were available and out of all the options I went for the sunroof and xenons totally make the car for me.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

French spec is quite different to ours I believe, however things I liked on my previous Yeti where the following;

Off Road Button

Hill Hold (HHC)

Corner fogs

Light assist (auto lights)

security of a spare wheel

Currently awaiting a new yeti and the following I'm looking forward to having that I didn't have before;

Heated windscreen

Heated seats

Lumber supports

Regard to the Rough Road Pack, that has recently changed to a thermoplastic engine cover rather than steel, so the jury's out on that one but I think worth having if you use dirt tracks or cross fords etc. Xenon's again are worth having if you do a lot of night driving particularly rural routes, if not save the pennies.

The sunroof is popular with those that have it (no longer available in the UK :wonder: ). However I've driven Yeti's with and without the velux feature and not noticed it being there, so personally save the pennies again.

Sports seats look good but obviously not tried them myself.

Oh if you have the option of 16" or 17" wheels then go for 16"; better ride and traction in cold wintry weather, plus a much wider choice of tyres. Unless you drive up and down a smooth autobahn all day then maybe 17's might suite.

TP

Hi Froggie,

Delete the sunroof and add the Columbus, that's my car.

I don't miss the sunroof and really like the Columbus.

Rear parking sensors would be useful for parking in Paris.

Only you can tell if you need to tow a trailer or not. I do need to tow a utility trailer, so have the Westfalia hok.

Xenons with cornering function - worth every penny;

Off-road button;

Heated windscreen.

Heated seats.

John

As what the others said, however a heated windscreen is only beneficial if the car is kept outdoors.

Mine is garaged overnight, and of course there's the extra expense and hassle if it breaks, will they keep it in stock or is there likely to be a few weeks delay??

Apart from that, I agree with everyone else

The sunroof is DEFINITELY worth having, and will help it keep it's value whenever you PX it (for another Yeti of course :D )

WELCOME to Briskoda, :hi:

I presume your a sporty orientated driver if you've just sold a Golf GTI and have now got some sense if you're considering a Yeti :wonder:

Hi, all, new here. I have just sold my Mk6 Golf GTI and am looking for a complete change. I really like the look of the Yeti and am thinking of the following configuration. Any advice/opinions?

140hp TDI 4x4 - have a think about the CR170 version as you might find the softer performance of the CR140 a bit of a comedown.

white - distinctive choice  ; Tangerine perhaps?

Intermediate 'Ambition' trim (don't want leather) - fair enough

Grey cloth sports seats (I have not been able to find pictures of the red ones mentioned in the brochure - can anyone help?) - Oh I wish these were available in the UK! To go with the 'sporty' theme, select the Three spoke (sporty) steering wheel as well.

Xenon lights (worth the cost?) - Absolutely worth the cost; a no brainer IMHO.

Sunroof (nice, but $$$!) - Forget it! Spend the money on the CR170.

Off-road pack - Worth it for the peace of mind whether you intend to 'off-road' or not.

I believe the sports seats are unavailable in the UK, but does anyone have any feedback? Here's a photo. - They're probable the same 'sport' seats as used in the Octavia vRS and as such are likely to be identical to those you would have had in your Golf GTI (unless you had Recaros).

Are there any other must-have options to go for? TIA ;)

Heated screen, depending on where in France you are and the likelyhood of encountering frost.

Rear parking sensors - only (unless part of the Ambition pack; you don't need the front or self-parking function).

If you like your music then the 12 speaker upgrade to the Bolero will be worthwhile.

good luck.

??

I had to use my heated windscreen when I tried to clean it using screenwash - the screenwash froze on the wipers and the windscreen when the outside temp was -13 coming back from scotland.

The heated windscreen was brilliant as it cleared very quickly - thankfully, as I was travelling at about 70mph. Wind chill must have made the -13 much loweremoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I have also had to use it once when the screen started to fog over - again in very cold weather. cleared very fast.

What about when you are away (in your static caravanemoticon-0136-giggle.gif perhaps) and it freezes overnight, or you are with friends for the evening and you have a heavy frost?

I like my heated screen, if you can't tell!

Thanks for your answers so far, guys.

- sunroof - yes, very nice, but I also have a Mazda MX5 convertible for the warm weather, so I probably can't justify the cost.

- xenons - I don't really need them (little nighttime driving, urban environment...), but they look cool. Do the standard halogen lights have projector lenses? If so, I could maybe upgrade the bulbs myself..?

- 170hp - would be nice, but I've read that it's not as smooth as the 140hp

- heated windscreen - I have this on my Ford Transit and it is fantastic. Should be compulsory on all cars. Must remember to spec it on the Yeti.

I drove the RAV4 this morning. Nice, but it just looks SOOO boring.

Will try to drive the Yeti tomorrow.

Incidentally, my GTI was a very good car, but traction was dreadful (210hp to the front wheels - forget it in the winter and/or in the rain :wonder: )

I also struggled with traction on my 59bhp Polo and my remapped PD140 Octavia. The Yeti just accelerates. No fuss. No drama. It's now time to get Elsie remapped to around 185/190bhp from 140.

If that happens, I use my trusty ice scraper. :giggle:

Kitten and I didn't want a heater screen anyway.

I agree with everyone else really - I personally don't like sunroofs, so wouldn't include in my 'perfect' spec.

I notice you refer to an 'off road pack'. Unless things are different 'cross the channel, the Rough Road pack refers to the protective bits bolted on underneath (and used to include the plastic film foils at rear wheel arch, but now standard - I think), whereas the Off Road Button is a control button that configures various electronic gizmos for max off-road vbenefits. You don't want to confuse the two - I would have (and have got) both. They are both almost certainly options in your specced model. In the 4 x4 they just naturally compliment and round out the off-road capability to me.

I love the Xenons - I would have had a heated screen if I hadn't bought an ex-demo car, and I think mudflaps just naturally go along with all the off-road stuff, but can be added later. I am the only driver, so the electric adjusting seat not important to me - if I was one of several regular drivers I would want that badly! i rely on the rear sensors, being inept, and wish i had front ones. I find sensors are better at judging distances from inside the cab than I am..

Having made good use of the off road button of late in the snow I can highly recommend it - great bit of kit! Keeps things under control nicely when driving downhill on a slippery surface.
