vr6 brakes on felicia

Featured Replies

alright geezers, i've been doing a bit of thinking here and there and i can't get the idea of golf vr6 discs/calipers out of my head..

i've had a preliminary look at the front uprights/bearing carrier assembies from both cars side by side and i reckon it should be a good fit, i reckon the golf ball joints will fit the track control arms on the felicia with a little bit of persuasion, the track rod ends are at a slightly different vertical height but i think there should be enough adjustment in them for it to work.. somewhat interestingly also is the spline for the outer cv joint is the same size as the golf one so it should fit straight in as it is.

obviously it would mean changing to a 5 stud wheel fitment of at least 15" to fit in the 288mm discs and also changing out the suspension dampers too for the golf ones but it's got to be worth a crack surely?

i'm appealing to the usual suspects here for inspiration or comments... also i seem to remember ross posting up a picture of a friends felicia with golf calipers on it ages ago, made me chuckle because the calipers were upside-down, i've done a search and i can't find the post anywheres now

Wheel hub is felicia, under brake disc is 1cm pad for using Corrado caliper. Of course we used strength screws...

thanks for the reply skury, i've seen this pictures before on this site and it confused me a little.

which carrier brackets are you using? and which caliper type are they? what size discs are they? i had a look round and i couldn't find any combinations that fit the felicia hubs

hmm i'm not so sure that a spacer under the disc is such a good idea?

done 3K of hard use on my 265's now with no problems (apart from lots of dust ) fit and forget mate :wonder:

oh and as my missus found out they will lock up at whatever speed you fancy if you press em hard enough :giggle:

quick edit... its fine with 14" too and anything over say 270mm is going to be wasted on a car as light as the felly, I was only using 284mm om my rally car on tar

Early Golf VR6 used 280mm discs, not sure if that helps with wheel options.

ive got a set of 280s off a seat ibiza cupra if theyre any use to anyone? 4 stud and they use similar hub to a mk2 golf

i was thinking about doinbg it with your method jimbo, i will tap you up for some bits in the new year  just wanted to explore the whole vr6 thing first as it kills 2 birds with one stone, firstly you get the big brakes, and secondly it's dead easy to find coilovers for a mk3 golf fitment..

keep the ideas coming folks

edit: i'm also not a great fan of the idea of putting a spacer behind the brake disc.. to be perfectly frank i think it's just asking for trouble to do stuff like that

the other thing with trying to fit the golf hub complete is the effect it would have on bump steer and stuff like that too Tom, I had a close look at going that route too but thought if it worked ok the factory would have used them on the kit cars instead of making an adaptor to adapt the collar to a golf fitment, pretty sure when measured the angles the ball joint was in the wrong position to keep the camber sensible.

anyway most ford front legs will fit so coilovers is not a problem, stuff like escort mk4/5 and fiesta etc even the skoda topmounts will fit to them.
