A Question for Ross

Featured Replies

Or any other tech with VAG experience?

The car in question is a 2002 Leon TDi 110 with sports suspension.

Last night my partner hit the central reservation at approx 65-70 mph in driving rain and poor viz.

Luckily she brought the car to a halt almost instantly and didn't connect with the armco.

She did, however, hit the kerbstones with both front and rear offside wheels.

The front offside alloy was badly kerbed and the tyre ripped at the point of impact. Of course the tyre fitting muppets had used too much pressure to put the wheel studs on so I managed to round off one of the studs and she ended up getting lowloaded back to a workshop to get the wheel off and the spare put on.

Because she was shaken by the accident she kept the speed down on the journey home.

I took the car out this morning: no problems: let go of steering wheel at 70 mph and very little drift to the nearside (? camber of the road)

The recovery guy had a right good look underneath the car and the tyre fitters this morning also checked front steering and suspension and said she was very lucky that she didn't damage anything.

I just got a phone call from her: she is on a trip up to Scotland and went round a roundabout and the car got half way round then the "steering went funny" and she went straight ahead....luckily avoiding another accident!!!

I know the roundabout she was talking about and it is "slippy" at the best of times but....is she just being paranoid or could she have done some damage that wasn't immediately obvious?

I'm thinking front strut leaking?

Or worse: rear suspension damage? (No-one has checked this area yet)

Any clues what I should look for on this car?

She reports a "rubbing noise" when turning hard left ???? (Confused!)

Any help gratefully received
