Help with Log book needed

Featured Replies

I hope someone could help me with this, ok here it goes. If you buy a car and trade in your old car which Log book do I need to add my new address? I traded in my Honda and didn't put my new address in the Log book! I phoned the salesman this morning and he told me that he has put my new address in the Log book that belongs too the Skoda. It does make sence as i'm the new owner but i'm not sure how this all works. I sent off a slip that came from my old Log book too DVLA to confirm i'm no longer the owner. The salesman is sending the Skoda Log book with my new address so will I get everything sent too my address? I'm very confussed and I can't just go back too the dealer as he's 35 miles away! Any help would be great thanks.

..... I'm very confused ......

You are confused? I've just read your post three times and I'm confused too.

Give the logbook from your Honda to the dealer MINUS the tear-off strip which you fill in yourself and send to the DVLA stating that you are no longer the keeper.

The dealer should have sent the Skoda's log book off to the DVLA stating that you are the new keeper.

They will then send the logbook directly to you.

If he simply passed over the logbook to you, it is then your responsibility to send it off to the DVLA showing your name/address as the new keeper. They will note the details and return it to you.

Where is the problem?

If I've followed this correctly:

You had a Honda

You moved but didn't notify DVLA

You part-ex'd Honda

Your correct address is noted on your new Skoda V5

If that is correct any docs for your Honda will be sent to the old address. Any docs for the Skoda will be sent to your current address.

I presume you have also notified the change address on your driving licence? If not then you are breaking the law.

If you sold the Honda, and it was registered at a different address it doesnt matter in this case.

The Dealer you sold the Honda to should have given you back part of the V5 (red I think), on that you write down the name and address of the dealer and the date you sold the car. Since the dealer needs to sign this as well, he may have already filled in the address. You then send that part of the V5 to the address written on the back. You dont need to write your new address on any of the paperwork for the Honda.

For the Skoda the dealer should send of the V5 on your behalf, with your new address already on it.

It is the responsibility of the seller to notify DVLA of changes, since you as the seller are responsible if you fail to do so and will still be liable for tax fines, and other offences should you not do so.
