Electric Heated Mirrors - Can't work them out...

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone could explain how to use the heated mirrors on the Fabia VRS?

There is no dash notification or thing on the dial to tell you when they are switched on, how do you know when they are on or off?

Do you need to rotate the switch all the way round to the R+L letters past the heater point, or just up to the heater point and release it?

I got told you need the rear window heater on as well as they run off the same circuit.

Thanks

Stu

Most cars i know of when you use the heated rear screen it activates the heated mirrors although vag cars have a odd layout for controls to what im use to

If there the same as the mk1 fabia which I'm asuming they are the line on the dial set to the heat icon means there on and to switch them off turn the dial to either the L or R position and they work independently so you don't have to have the rear screen heater on for them to work.

If you turn the rotary switch so the indicator is facing forward past right mirror position and theres no warning light to tell you its on

If they work the same as in the Octavia 1Z, you only turn the knob to the heated mirror and leave it there.

Heating will always be on, no control light or whatsoever. Even in summer they will be heated.

I always left them on the heated mirror. Even in Italy in summer.

They are not coupled to the heated rear window. (had that on a ford)

Thanks for the replies.

The problem is my heater button is on a spring return, and the heater position is not lockable, it springs back down from that position, if that makes sense.

I think I have the same type switch on my Greenline. You can select R and L with the heater emblem 180 degrees further round at the front. Mine has a detent which allows it to engage and hold in the R,L and heater position. The dial is sprung but definitely has a 'detent' on the heater part to hold it in position.

as above - rotate it all the way round (anti-clockwise in my car`s case) and then it locks into position. Oddly it points straight forward when its in the heated mirror position, rather than upward at the heater icon and my mirror dial won`t allow me to turn it clockwise to the heater setting.

Ignore most of my previous post above...I just checked my switch.

It 'locks' in the L, O and R position. If you want the heater on you just wind it beyond the L or R and the spring sort of flicks it around. It doesnt have to line up with the heater emblem to work.

I know its really odd! The Superb uses a "poshed-up" chrome version of the dial and that locks into position pointing at the heater emblem, only extra that the dial does on the Superb is it also folds the mirrors in. Can`t see why Skoda couldn`t or didn`t just use the same mechanism just with the mirror fold lock position missed out.

Still can't figure this out, bloody thing!

Rear heater does NOT have to be on. I get no indication the mirrors are on. If the switch isn't in the middle or on R or L.......its on.

The MK1 switch is different.

OK just took some piccies to try and help;

Normal dial position with the heated mirrors off (pointing at the "O" sorry about the angle);

Dial position for the heated mirrors to be on (180 degrees the other way to above pic);

At least thats for the Mark 2, don`t know about the mark 1! And there aren`t any warning lights or noises or notes or anything like that.

Brilliant!

Thank you very much!

If the above is correct, it would appear my heated mirrors have been switched on for a long time, hope the elements are alright!

Thanks again.

Thats ok, only realised mine had been on for three weeks when I tokok the pictures!

Shouldnt be any problem. As written before, left them on in my Octavia VRS for almost all the time I drove the car (3.5 years) and didnt have any problems.

thanks all you for this topic , i too found them a bit confusing in the start.

Think this has helped other with similiar frustrations.

One simple question though would it be smart to just leave the heating always on during winter??

Can someone qualified tell us that no harm can be caused?

Stealer told me they automatically go off after 7 minutes in the new vRS. He recommended that I don't always keep it on though as they get very hot. I use a car cover though so I've only used them once.

On the Mk2 Fabia's the heated mirrors switch off automatically after 20 minutes even if the switch is left on. However, if the switch is still left in the 'ON' position, the heated mirrors will again be switched on when you next turn off and on with the ignition. This is not recommended as it hits the fuel economy just like the rear window heater does. It will also shorten the life of the heater elements.

............. very well summed up guys..... :thumbup:
