6 speed conversion

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have an Octavia 110BHP TDI, I was wondering when the gearbox needs replacing if there is a good method of changing to a 6 speed box, and if this would actually work well for improving efficiency at 70?

The car has plenty of grunt at 70 at the moment, and would like to drop the revs at this speed.

Has anyone else done this, and if so, how did they find it?

Kind Regards,

Nare Rusco

Have a read on the threads discussing this for the 1.8t engine. The parts required will be the same.

Regarding your question, yes it will drop your revs. The vRS Fabia owners will be able to shed more light on the in gear speeds...... my diesel spec 6 speeder is mated to a high revving (8000rpm) petrol engine.

Yes the 6 speed O2M box will lower your revs, thus you should be able to get better fuel economy.

However, you need to consider the cost of the gearbox & fitting, and work out whethers its economical to do.

I'm afraid I've got no idea what RPM & MPG you could expect at 70 with an O2M.

I suspect you'd be better off investing in a remap first (if not already done).

Another to ponder would be insurance; fitting an O2M might be considered a fairly major mod (by the insurance company), and push your insurance up.

Could limit the number of insurance companies willing to insure you in the first place too.

I have upgraded to an O2M in my 4x4, but I suspect like Steevie Wonder, its for performance reasons rather than economy.

Considering you will need

Gearbox

Flywheel

Clutch

Starter motor

Drive shafts

bell housing bolts

Mounting and bolts

Clutch line and damper

Its not a cheap conversion
