Removing Bump strips

Featured Replies

I'm looking at removing the side bumper strips on my octavia to give it that smooother look!

Just wondering how they are attached?

I assume just bonded on with a type of glue.

To anyone who has done this was it easy to remove them/Glue, I don't want to pull them off to find a horrible gluey mess that is impossible to get off!

Cheers.

If you are referring to the trim on the doors, they are fitted with double sided tape. They are going to be on there pretty secure. You can get trim removing tools(spatular's) for easing the trim off from body paint stores.

Failing that you could use hot water or a heat gun to warm up the trim and double sided tape and slowly peel it back.

Be careful that you do not end up pulling paint off too. As long as the car has not be repainted you should be ok. Just take it slowly

also the door is not smooth behind them they cover up a small dip along the doors

Saw an Octavia that didn't have side strips on the doors today, my vRS has a twin locally without them too.

IMO it looks good but as said there is a recess where these strips should be, i can't be bothered with the fuss to remove them though.

As stated look for signs of a respray before removing, it was a preferred "mod" to remove the door protector strips on mk5 Fiesta's when i was a member on www.zsoc.com and heard several horror stories of people removing then to find mis-matched paint or 'lips' in the paint where the doors have been resprayed and the protector strips just masked over.

When i did it on my Fiesta i simply heated the area with hot water and a hair drier and prized off one end of the strip then continued to heat under the strip whilst moving down the car gently tugging the trim off the car.

Try tar remover, a pencil eraser or even petrol to remove left over glue.

Hot air gun or hair dryer and patience! It's easy if you take your time and don't rush. If theres Any glue that's left over on the door I used tar remover and it came off a treat.

Just a quick tip don't heat for to long in the same spot or you'll bubble the paint.

Looks a lot better without them IMO
