FELICIA ACCELLERATOR CABLE

Featured Replies

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.

RIGHT NOW CAN ANYBODY TELL ME IS IT EASY FOR A NOVICE TO CHANGE ACCELLERATOR CABLE ON MY FELICIA 1300cc XL MPI.

ANY TIPS WOULD BE VERY HELPFULL.THANKS.

best thing to do when putting the new cable in is start at the pedal end, it's quite tricky to get the little bobble thing over the pedal lever thing, once that's on feed the cable through the front bulkhead and fully push home the rubber grommit into the hole.. then attach it to the throttle housing afterwards..

make sure you don't overtighten the cable, leave a little bit of slack, there is a tiny c clip that you can insert into various graded sections at the throttle end to obtain the correct tension, you may need to remove this c clip from your existing cable as most new ones dont come wit one

MANY THANKS TOM FOR REPLYING SO FAST!!!!

To get the right adjustment, have someone (or a brick) hold the pedal down to the stop, then hold the throttle fully open and pop the clip in so that all the slack in the cable is just taken up. There should then be little if any free play in the pedal in the idle position, too.

it's not a good idea to adjust the cable like that, you are likely to those the circlip inside the engine if you drop it

Fair point - it works well for me, but then with the 1.6 you don't have to take the air intake off to get at the adjuster, so the worst outcome is dropping it somewhere down the back of the engine and having to hunt for the damn thing with your longest, pointiest pliers (only done that once!). Best in that case to adjust for minimal slack (but little or no tension) at idle position and check afterwards that the throttle hits the stop with the pedal fully down. Oh, and make sure the cable doesn't get kinked at its exposed end, as that makes it very difficult to get it nicely adjusted, as the one which was originally on my car will testify.

i'll see if i can dig out the proper workshop manual and upload the page regarding setting up the tension properly
