Diesel fabia - 1.4 TDi - opinions please

Featured Replies

Guess the fact I didn't drive it ;) - it was just a comment made by someone earlier in this thread I picked up on.

The vRS (which I did drive) seemed to pull from tickover virtually, although when you hit the turbo band it 'takes off'. Can't say I purposefully kept revving it over 4k though, couldn't see the point. You've gotta be pretty darn quick not to hit that in 1st as it get's up there in a flash :D

Well, mind has been made up - I'm going for the 1.4tdi but, wait for it, it's a VW Polo! Was idly browsing car showrooms yesterday (as you do) and came across a lovely black 1.4 tdi Polo. Took it for a spin, felt way more 'solid' than the equivalent fabia, quieter too. I felt the seats were better, the steering wheel had better adjustment and it was a little less low rent than the wee Fabia, no offence intended to the fabia hordes. ;)

Performance was more than adequate for my needs ie. commuting motorways and bumper to bumper town stuff.

Here's the clincher though - 6 months older than the Fabia, broadly similar spec but the dealer was much more willing to come down on the sticker price than Horners (disappointed as I've had 2 cars of them) to the point where the Polo was cheaper by

 nice choice...

Horses for courses I suppose, but I find my vRS's interior considerably nicer and better built than that of my dads Polo TDI Sport... so there :P

Hehe, wasn't comparing it to the vRS but rather to the Comfort spec that I had test driven. :)

Very nice - I'm sure you'll love it. And you get the nice blue dashboard lights :-)
