How Reliable? & Avoid this garage!

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I recently purchased an 07 plate Octavia VRS pd TDi, in black with 18" alloys, jumbo box, climate and cruise plus all the usual extras. The car has been mine 3 months and so far has spent 3 weeks off the road!!

First the exhaust emission light came on, only had the car 6 weeks at this point, sensor swapped and problem went away. Whilst my local garage had the car they noticed the front bushes were very worn and should have been replaced. The car was returned to the dealer it came from to have this and some other minor problems (Both heated mirrors not working, rear washer jet not working, no glovebox light, rear seat trim unsecured, paint work on roof not been sorted when it was supposed to be, also my local dealer noticed the engine covering was not secured correctly!).

The dealer I purchased from, collected and kept the car for 10 days and finally returned with most of the above sorted aswell as problems with the front torsion and other suspension problems fixed and another exhaust sensor swap. Car was returned to me with the steering off centre and the rear trim still not secured, picked up and returned again the following day, finally sorted, or so I thought. When the car was returned there was significantly less fuel than when it went and a headlight was out!! ( I went to my local spares shop and swapped both the cheap chinese unrecommended bulbs for Bosch ones)

I gave up at this point and was glad to finally have the car back, working!!

The car lasted a month before the oil light began flashing red, dealer advised the oil was low, checked this and this was not the case, car was not driveable since Christmas Eve and is due for it's fifth visit to Skoda for investigation!!

So I would just like to ask if anyone else has had this many problems with a diesel VRS? & I would also like to say thanks to Claybank Skoda in Eccles for being so helpful, dilligent and patient, whilst warning people away from a certain dealer in the Cheshire area close to a retail outlet and Aquarium!!

If you decide to buy from them then you may find them exceedingly helpful, drink and a cake, friendly smile and free car washing etc but they don't seem to do much of a check on the cars and once you leave their forecourt and have a problem...........

The car has only done 52000 so any comments would be most helpful.

Thanks,

A puzzled and disgruntled VRS driver(Sometimes!).

PS. I noticed that the car also has brand new tyres on it from the dealer, a friend who works in the tyre trade has never heard of the make and can't even source them, where they got them from I will never know. They are fantastic in the wet, so good that I will be swapping all four when I can afford it, any recomendations?

Whilst on the subject of recommendations, what brand of diesel and oil do people use? I have heard these are quite heavy on oil.

Thanks again.

Have you considered asking them to swap it? Think I'd have given up on it sooner that you! Sounds like it might have lead a hard life.

The garage I bought it from are not the easiest to deal with once they have got you and I have had it just over 3 months!! Not impressed especially since I had this car recommended by many people, one of whom is a traffic cop who drives one on duty!!

Plus they gave me a 12 month Skoda warranty!!
