ride quality on lowered cars

Featured Replies

im having my vrs lowered next week on the eibach pro kit and iv bought the powerflex and seat cupra bushes for the front aswell. From any ones experience how does it affect ride comfort as iv been told that that fitting the powerflex bushes will make the ride really hard. is it just worth lowering it and fitting the cupra bushes and leaving the powerflex ones out, or do they work better together?

thanks for your time

steve

tbh mate powerflex bushes are not for the pothole filled british roads, and certainly dont aid ride quality, BUT they do sharpen the car up in my experience so its a trade off between handling and response and comfort, my car is used for my driving school and ive just dropped some eibach springs on it, very very pleased with them, had to have the alignment tweeked but aside from that they make the car so much nicer to drive and the ride quality once youve done 500 or so miles is id argue nearly identical to standard. thanks for the response, yeah theres just so many people with there own ideas on what i should/shouldnt do im just confused and i want to get it right first time. like i said im not sure about peoples experiences with the eibachs and just the seat cupra bushes, as iv been told just to go with that combo and not to bother with the powerflex. Your right about the roads thought there really crashy in and around leicester, in a stiffer car mite end up with a bad back lol

Trouble is no one is you so you can't realy rely on anyone elses opinion.

I have full powerflex kit (inc rear beam) Spax adjustable coil overs, braces front and rear, Cupra bushes, vRS front arb and a Jabba RARB.

Hard as nails but I love it, just no big meals before you go out..lol

If you was local I'd offer to take you out in mind and show you. They're fine until you hit a pot hole and then it goes BANG! So you drive avoiding them all, you get used to it to be honest... I like a spirited drive so the loss of comfort is worth it for the low looks and improved handling.

exactly mate its all down to taste, thing is bushes arent really what will determine ride its a combination of things, because over a good smooth surface they will feel really good, tightening everything up nicely, but over a rough ass road full of holes and a million council patch repairs its horrible, my mates got a BOG standard ibiza cupra tdi that those bushes in question come off, and combined with the lower profile 17" rubber on the seat, its so so hard, very harsh u can feel every pebble, i couldnt live with it!!!

whats it like to drive when your cruising on the motorway? i go to italy quite alot and have never take the car so a road trip is in order this summer, i was just worrying that after 1200 one way miles id hate what id done to the car

I find that while a little stiffer my eibachs don't seem to make the car uncomfortable. From memory they are 25% stiffer so just imagine what that would translate to. The motorway feels fine.

braces front and rear

Any more information on these? What are they and what do they do?

The cupra bushes are pretty solid mate.

I had powerflex on my RS turbo (not the same car i know) but found them to do exactly what they said on the tin! - They were incredibly stiff, exaggerated every dink and hole in the road.... but the car handled like it was on rails and was awesome round the track!

Its all about taste and preference, what is the car going to be used for? Daily runner to work? long trips? The odd trip to the track? or a Hardcore Track slag?

If it was me (but i'm sensible and old) I'd give it a try with the cupra bushes and decent shock/spring combo - Eibach are very good and are as good as any OEM part.

Coilovers are all well and good, But the world did turn before they were on the scene!! (i know i'll get slated for dissing them!) if you are not looking for massive lows and just a sensible drop and don't need them to be height adjustable, there are some excellent quality shock and spring set ups for little more than budget coilovers and will give you that perfect combination between performance and comfort.

Strut braces

I have cupra bushes fitted and I can't tell the difference. All they do is last a million times longer, win win!

Snap I'm just about to move from eibachs to witch coilies so I'm expecting the ride to get worse

Had powerflex bushes on our old 1.7 Puma. Was great, had no issues with comfort but the car felt much more planted. Cant wait to get some onto the Fabia.

I found the strut brace made a bigger difference to crashiness over potholes than the lower suspension, although even without it it's clearly not as plush as my wife's Comfort with its off-road ride height (bit less wobbly in corners though, of course!)
