Headlight Washers

Featured Replies

Sorry if this has been covered before but it appears the headlight washer function on my 110 SE has decided to take a holiday. Has anybody else suffered this and if so is are there any pointers or is it a trip to the dealer?

It's probably frozen. There are a couple of other threads not too far back on Headlight Washers and Moving Xenon lights, where there is a lot of information.

Thanks for that , they were frozen a week ago but have been clear for the last few days. I have pulled the stalks out from the bumper (carefully) and they seem to slide easily so I guess either the pump has stopped working or perhaps a fuse has gone - will investigate further at weekend in the daylight

Thanks anyway ..Garth.

Worth remembering that the headlamp wash only operates every 5th use of the wipers, when the headlights are on.

If you are fortunate enough the be driving in daylight at present without headlamps on then the washers don't operate.

I do wonder though if the system is 'clever' and only operates the headlamp wash if there is plenty of fluid in the reservoir. I ask this as, on my Audi, I have had the 'fill screenwash' warning on for the last three days (replenished this morning btw) and whilst this warning has been on I've got half an idea that the H/wash has not been operating; even though I have been using the wipers loads and I'm driving with headlights on.

With the headlight wash, the reservoir has a 5.5 litre capacity. I just had the warning light come on, and filled almost 4 litres in the reservoir, hence 1.5 lite´res left when the light comes on.

certainly surprised me 1st time i filled it up..

being used to filling the tiny reservior on a fabia it seemed like the yeti one was never going to fill to the top.

it was dark so couldn't see too well.

at one point i had a look underneath with a torch coz i thought 'it must have a leak!

no. and 5 litres later it was eventually full.

i wonder how long it will take to empty? ;)

Did you try to use the headlamp wash during the cold snap? As mentioned it was probably frozen, so check your concentration of screenwash.

I've also had it that the fuse for the washers has blown as you're trying to use them in cold weather and they're not able to operate as the fluid is frozen. So check the fuse for them. It'll be listed clearly in the handbook in the fuses section.

Worth checking.

Thanks boys were sorted.

Fuse no 21 was blown, obviously through trying to use the washers when frozen (Must make the solution stronger - It's grim up north!). Shilpas Yeti is now back to good health and has a wet nose again
