Worn out gearbox mountings

Featured Replies

Coming on and off the throttle on my felly is becoming jerkier and jerkier everyday, the gearstick physically moves about about inch.

It's something i can live with but if all the engine and gearbox mounts are knackered it would explain why my cheap flexi-hose in my exhaust system has cracked as has the manifold on the under.

As some of you may know i have all the parts ready to put a whole mew system on including sports cat's and stainless steel manifold, but i want to stop all this shaking and movement in the engine and gearbox first!!!

only problem is i can't find any engine mounts or gearbox mounts online and i am getting SERIOUSLY frustrated. im starting to think the car doesn't have any mounts only some lower mounting bracket for the gearbox that keeps popping up on all the searches i do.

Can some please tell me the list of parts for engine and gearbox mounts so i can go order some from skoda before i go mad!!!!

6U0 199 427, ~£20 from Skoda, or aftermarket one from Jorily. If your existing one's covered in oil then you'll probably want to replace the selector shaft oil seal while you're under there.

If the gear linkage is a bit worn as well, it can be interesting (although very distracting) to watch the gearstick tracking all the bumps in the road out of the corner of your eye :D

edit: I should read more carefully - that one is the most important one when it comes to stopping the engine rocking back and forth as you describe (never mind on and off the throttle - have you seen how much it jumps around when you're starting it?)

For completeness, the other gearbox mount is 6U0 199 155 A (and 6U0 199 331 for the top plate), ~£9 each from Skoda or Jorily. The engine mount on the other end is unlikely to make a huge difference - I renewed mine for the sake of it when I did the timing belt and water pump, since most of my parts are in a pretty sorry state - it's about £25 just for the rubber bit (6U0 199 145 A) and it's a right bugger to get in and out. All these part numbers are for the 1.6 engine - bushes for the 1.3 might not be as strong, and the engine mount is different anyway.

Rob your a saviour!!!

thanks so much for spending the time getting the part numbers fro me i shall order them all now, except for the awkward one that you say makes little difference. yes the engine 'rocks' alot.

i shall contact Jorily and get some, i just didn't think they did any cos i couldn't find them.

So just to check the first part number you gave is the most important one to stop the engine 'rocking'?

don't bother buying the rear bush seperately, it's a press fit into it's metal housing, best off buy the whole rear mounting complete as one piece, they are about £20 or something complete from jorily, make sure you get the right one for your engine type though because there are 2 types

if you get desp ive got one on the shelf for a tenner posted

That is the right one if yours is a 1.6 or diesel. Easy to fit, 10 minute job...
