Difference between Eibach Pro Kit Springs and official Skoda Lowering Springs?

Featured Replies

Does anyone own or has owned some of the official Skoda springs for the Octy and know if they were marked with Skoda markings on the springs or just on the box they were supplied in? Reason I ask is Skoda have now stopped this option but I still want a set of these and am hoping that they were just Eibach springs in a Skoda box and not specially made springs with Skoda markings on.

As I understand it, they were Eibach marked, in a Skoda box.

So just order the Pro-Kit. Best price around the £135 mark (just ordered some myself this week from Awesome).

(Other retailers are available ;))

As Steve said ;)

But try a couple of dealers , as I know they are on the discounted section just now , so you could get a good price ;)

Now you tell me! Does that mean I didn't get the best deal by buying from Awesome?? :p

Lol!

Did you not buy Shark 90's springs Wardy?

Also wondering as they were withdrawn about the same time as the FL Octy coming out is there an issue with them fitting to a FL vRS?

I am out of the Eibach etc. but to be fair , I get to see what is available on the reduced section on parts , and i do believe they are on there , so a dealer could give you a good price

But then , they may not , so may be worth sticking to Awesome , or have a couple of calls , as you never know ;)

No, someone else had them. Not sure who it was.

And I can't see an issue with FL fitting. I know people who've fitted the same model number to FL vRSes without problem.

Just might have been me, but I couldn't confirm it..... :D

I can confirm that there are no problems fitting them to the FL ;)

A few people have mentioned the need for 15mm spacers to the rear to bring the alloys out level. Is this true or is it a minor thing?

That's just a stance thing. Really because it's a bit more noticeable when lowered as the wheel is nearer the arch, and therefore more obvious that it could do with sticking out a bit more :)

Don't know what width and offset the FL 18"s are? 7.5 and an ET 51 perhaps? If so 10-15mm should do nicely. I run a 8x18, ET42. To be honest with the slightly wider wheel, combined with that offset they come out maybe a touch too far. Looks great but the downside is quite a lot more road grime seems to collect round the nearby bodywork in this weather :|

I've taken a couple of pics and also the original pics prior to them being fitted......it was poor lighting so I'll post a couple of better ones tomorrow when its a bit lighter outside

Looks so much better lowered. I was just speaking to Mike at Awesome today to get a price on the Eibach Pros for my upcoming new vRS.

What's the ride quality like? Not too hard I hope.

cheers mate and you have the best taste in the colour of your car now i know exactly how mine will look and have to say it looks a million times better than on the stilt's it is on at the moment. i cant believe that they let them out the factory sitting so high.

thanks again and your car looks great.

Thanks for the great comments guys, I'll try to get some better ones up taken in good daylight when its clean! I have fitted the 4090 GTI/VRS Specific Koni FSD kit in conjunction with the Eibach Pro-Kit, the difference to standard is like night and day.

The roads round here are shocking and the standard suspension being Typical VAG ' sports' suspension is over sprung and underdamped which makes for a pretty crashy ride on pot hole strewn roads, the FSD's do a fantastic job of smoothing out the potholes and on the motorways they are ultra smooth, not floaty or anything like the original FSD kit that was ' one does all across all the ranges. There is no dive on braking or squat under hard acelleration and directional changes are totally controlled, it feels better than my mk1VRS ( yes I know the suspension design is much better on the Mk2) on KW V2's, it soaks up mid corner bumps and holds the line perfectly, I also have a 28mm APR Rear Bar set on 'Soft' and Whiteline anti-Lift kit which all combined has, in my opinion, transformed the car from quite good to brilliant.

My advice.....and it is purely from my experience with my car is to fit the FSD's in conjunction with the Eibach Pro-kit ( especially if you are paying for it to be done) as you will then only pay one fitting cost, fitting the springs is exactly the same work as fitting the springs and shocks....

I have been advised by Awesome GTi and others that the quality on the Koni FSDs has been questionable recently. This was my original preferred choice but was put off it.

The new 4090 kit addresses these issues. There's no denying that there have been more issues than there should have been with the previous compatible FSD model.

I don't understand how a new kit addresses quality issues? There was nothing wrong with the design of the original FSDs it was clearly issues in the manufacturing process so why wouldn't these also be prevelent in the latest FSD kit?

I hope you're right, I'm just playing devil's advocate ;)

The FSD Valving and the valve rates have apparently been revised to suit the GTI and the vRS Spring rates as these are firmer than the standard cars, as far as I could glean the failures were generally on the GTI's and VRS models, as far as quality of the shocks are concerned.....I think that you'll find that Koni inserts are found on quiet a few of the major players, including KW's. I'll put miles on these pretty quickly, they have already done 4K in 2 months so I'll report back should there be any issues.....25Kmiles pa should show up any problems pretty quickly!.....I spoke to Koni directly prior to buying these.

That's really helpful thanks :)

I was as sceptical as you Jonno, but after discussing them with Dave and also some resellers I've ordered a set now. Really liked them on the Fabia and now they've hopefully sorted any issues out, I'm confident it's the right direction to go

Cheers,

Steve

I was also aware of the issues with the old kits that had been fitted to the sports variant VAG cars and did a lot of research and had lenghthy discussions with Koni and the UK importers along with a couple of trusted distributors, one of which actually fitted them for a VERY good price ( PSI Tuning in Newcastle Under Lyme, Ex head technician from AGTI who set up on his own a few years ago) highly recommended

For info, the old FSD Kit is part number 4001
