I only have one key

Featured Replies

I only have one key for my car, so I'm looking to get at least one spare, possibly two.

The car has an immobiliser, but not remote locking so I understand I only need to sync up the immob.

What's the best way to do this? Buy 5 or 6 keys off ebay and hope at least 2 work, get them cut at timpson and find someone locally with vagcom?

Obviously I could go to skoda, but I'm not too keen on the £150 number that has been talked about for other cars!

Is there a good half way option, where I can get a legit company to do the work, but not pay over the odds?

Is there anything else I need to be wary of when doing this?

Thanks

the actual coding of the key at skoda only costs about £40 i think, its the flip out key that costsalot

Can get a blank off eBay (just check it's the right type. The code should be on the 'neck' on the key - HAA, FAB something like that.

Might also need the top bit, where the light type thing is.

Then these people http://www.hickleys.com/diagnostics/keys_list.php?cat=107&menu=1 should be able to sell you the bit that syncs with the imboliliser. Dunno which one you'd need though!

Finally, get someone with VAGCOM to code the key to the car. I got quoted £45+ VAT at my local indy, although you might be able to find a friendly member close to you who would do it.

Hope that helps.

Or talk to shark_90 who will know for certain what to do.

Check out local locksmiths ( might be worth a chat with local RAC/AA bloke) .A lot of locksmiths locally have wised up to the greed of the stealers and are providing the service a lot cheaper .
