Battery Removal ?

Featured Replies

Hi, I need to remove the battery from my 2002 1.4mpi Fabia, but can't see what's holding in it.

Having googled, I found a battery removal procedure that mentioned undoing a lower retaining bolt, but gave no detail on how to find this lower retaining bolt. All I can see, looking from the front of the car, is a bolt below the battery and to its right, aligned directly downwards, which appears to be holding the plastic box, in which the battery sits, to the bodywork.

I'm not sure this is the bolt I'm looking for. Or is a case that removing that black plastic box from the car is part of the procedure? Or is there a bolt underneath the battery box which necessitates putting the car up on a ramp to get at ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's at the front and the base of the battery, about the centre, you can just see the head of the bolt, this holds a clamping plate, be careful you don't let it fall, it will end up on top of the undertray.

Thanks, would that be the one outside the pastic box, also aligned downwards ? Now that I look at it closer it does seem to be holding the end of something that might be a clamp. I was looking inside the box where vision is obsecured by the cloth/canvas wrap around the battery !

Yes that's it, you have to be a bit forceful pushing the plastic guard away.

Many thanks. Job done.

For anyone else seeing this and contemplating doing a DIY battery replacement, a few tips:

You'll need a socket set with an extension peice to get at that bolt

Put the 'lagging jacket' on the battery before putting the battery into the car, for some reason it doesn't work trying to slip it on after the battery is clamped in place.

A stick is handy to keep the positive connector out of the way while removing and replacing the battery.
