Upgrading the ICE in an Octy vRS

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have done a search but did not find anything that useful. I am a little dissappointed with the standard stereo system in my new Octy. I have got an excellent Pioneer headunit (that I took out of my old car) but:

A: I don't want to carry a faceplate around anymore

B: Getting all the cabling in behind is a nightmare and in my last car involved stripping out the lower dash (not keen on doing this in a new car) and...

So, my question is, is it worth upgrading the speaker's only? It seems that the rear speakers are worse than the fronts (which are not too bad). Would replacing the rear speakers only make much improvement?

Also, are there seperate tweeters for the rear speakers in the rear doors?

Cheers all

I was wondering about this too?

Speakers will make a difference, but the HU really is so poor it has to go...

As for wiring, take the glovebox out, but be careful with the glovebox light, as it's very fragile.

I can't believe a search has not given you a load of info, it's all been covered in great detail :)

componenets front and rear, changing just speakers won't see much improvement as the real downpoint is the headunit.

fitting the stuff into the dash isn't that hard as you can take the glove box out very easily, just 4 screws and the everything is much easier.

currently changed the headunit and front speakers and got three amps in the boot to run all speakers including the two subs in the boot. but i am in the process of buying lots of new things, only started yesterday though and still need to get 2 amps, new rear speakers and new subs so a fair bit of money left to pay out :o

EDIT: bugger it i took too long to reply

Thanks for the info guys, that last link was especially interesting

Useful tip about the glovebox. On my last car, removing the glove box did not help access to the stereo connections at all.

Out of interest, what "make" is the standard HU in the current vRS? And are there any other HUs on the market that would use the standard wiring?

So, the standard rear speakers are 13cm? What size are the fronts? And can anyone recommend some good quality replacements?

hu is grundig... nothing else works with it so forget that.

front are 16.5 replace with pion/inf/alp anything is better..

tbh with spks changed the symphony is bearable.. but a swap to dence 50w h.u will make it sound great

alpine 60w ones sound magnificent

the car has standard iso's in it but nothing will work with the standard changer, so if you dont mind losing that then any make can be used. just plug and go, might have to swap red for yellow but i can't remember. simply plug it in and try it before securing the unit in place

Good thing about the standard hu is that it switches on without the ignition key (although it switches off with it). A straight swap out for my Pioneer DEH-P77MP hu meant I lost this facility. I'd like to get round this if possible.

not possible really, its down to the manufacturere of the headunit and nothing else. most factory units do this but i have yet to find an after market one to do it

Any RS's I've seen over here come with Blaupunkt radios, mines a Modena CD51 and I thinks the ones after mine came with the CD52.
