red light in door

Featured Replies

Checked fuse today, still not coming on. I'm lost now!!

  • 3 weeks later...

My problem is the interior light doesnt come on when the driver door is opened this is also affecting the boot (the boot doesnt open unless i open another door which activates the interior light) heeeeellllllllllllllllpppppppppppp :(

I have the same problem. I have no warning sound when lights are on and drivers door is open. I have red reflectors in the doors not lights, boot bulb is missing, interior curtesy light not working, and no door or boot open warning lights on dash. I have come to the conclusion that the car sales lot I bought it off, have either took out all the fuses, or disabled them in some other way, as the open boot and doors kill the battery when it's on the forecourt. Pity when they sell the cars they don't replace everything they have removed :(

Failed switch in the driver's door lock mechanism - a very common problem. Mine has failed too but I just put up with it. You just have to remember not to leave your lights on as the failed switch also controls the lights on warning alarm.

EDIT: Bugger, just reaslised I have replied to a post which is over a year old :giggle:

Mine is a MPI Classic and it is not fitted with dash warning lights for doors open. I think they are only fitted to higher spec models.

Base models:

- red lump of plastic on door is a reflector

- no warning lights on dash for doors open

It’s great when you own a jack **** and oft maligned bargain basement 1.4 tdi - no distractions when you’re just plodding along.

I wondered about mine -prised it out to find no innards.

Of course ,simplest solution to no light could be lamp failed.

TMB, mine is 2004 Classic TDI and I get audible lamps on warning with ign off and lights on ,likewise, indicator set and ign off both with drivers door open .

Yeah but I don't think MPI 8 valve petrol models have it.

Another clarification - from the manual:

The interior light is switched on for about 20 seconds when a vehicle with a central

locking system is unlocked, when a door is opened or when the ignition key is

removed. The requirement for this is that the switch is in the door contact position.

The inner light goes out out immediately after the ignition is switched on.

A time delay switch* causes the inner lighting on vehicles without a central locking

system stays on for a few seconds after the doors have been closed. The inner light

goes out out immediately after the ignition is switched on.

The interior lighting is switched off after about 30 minutes when a door has been

left open in order to avoid discharging the battery of the vehicle

I don't know whether that applies to all models or just top end ones...

OK, cheers Tech1e. I stand corrected :-)

Thanks TMB :) you helped me so much, I've just been messing with fuses, sweating & cussing, at least I know the solution now. It doesn't matter if its a year old post, I couldn't seem to find any other thread on the door mechanism. The light is important to me as I have a wife and kids who need to see at night (I can love without the light :) ) my interior light will not work at all, I'm just hoping if I locate the door switch, and fit it, it will work. Lights on warning alarm is not really important.

You're welcome :)

The microswitch is attached to the door lock/catch assembly inside the door and it's often the driver's one that fails because it gets the most use. Not sure if Skoda sell the switch separately because I'm pretty sure it's considered an integral part of the whole lock/catch unit, but I've seen the switches for sale on ebay. You'd need to cut the old switch off and solder the new one to the old wires. I know that some people have managed to adapt other microswitches to fit too. Might be simpler (but more expensive) to replace the complete lock/catch unit though, depending on your ability/budget.

It's such a common problem that I reckon the switches must have been made out of chocolate :S

Have attached a pic of the microswitch that another member previously posted so you can see what it looks like...
