red light in door

Featured Replies

recently the red light that comes on both doors on when passenger or drivers door is opened, now only comes on when passenger door opens, when driver door opens then it remains off,

Could be the switch that senses if the door is open or not is broken.

Does the 'light on' buzzer still work based on the drivers door? And does the interior light work off the drivers door? If not, I'd guess the switch is gone. A search on google based on 'Fabia door mircoswitch' should find something.

Does this applie to all Fabia Models, as in, it should light up? If so mines never worked since i've had my Fabia, I assumed it was a reflector!

You are correct - only lights up in higher spec models.

Yes you are correct it is a reflector.

No you are wrong, I'd think that the OP was referring to the "a door is open" warning on the dashboard! (as was the next poster)

Base models:

- red lump of plastic on door is a reflector

- no warning lights on dash for doors open

It’s great when you own a jack **** and oft maligned bargain basement 1.4 tdi - no distractions when you’re just plodding along.

No, no. I was reffering to the red oblong light in the lower corner of the front doors. Lights up when the front doors are opened. It was on my 2001 Comfort (later renamed to Ambiente).

It's just visable shining on the passengers side B pillar.

judging by the pic and the position of the seats, you are 6´2" (is like looking at my car, witch is also silver and seats are in the exact same postion) jejeje.

i have the classic and they dont come on, but the loom light does come on when doors are opened, when driver´s door is opened it doesnt, but if i remove the key it does... so maybe thats it try it without the key on the in the ignition.

I have an 05 plate vrs,and when i take my keys out of the ignition the red door lights both come on and only go off when the car is fully locked .

On the cars only fitted with a plastic reflector, do they have the wiring loom already inside the door space, can you buy the red lights to simply plug in ?

Thread hijack again (since I have the same issue).

Driver convenience comes on only when passenger door is open....neither comes on when driver door is open. (they're definitely lights, not reflectors).

What things do I need to rule out?

Was going to put some LED strips under the doorcard to come on when door is open....as per the inspiration from another user.

First thing to diagnose or rule out is the drivers door switch.

All questions relating to the drivers door:

Does the buzzer come on when your lights are on?

Does the dash light recognise the door is open when you open it?

Does the interior light come on when you open the door and it's set to the correct setting.

If none of the above, then your switch has gone as the car isn't recognising that the door is open.

I'm going to make a small correction to that statement so as not to mislead others - take out the "only".

The lights are synced with the interior lights so when the interior lights fade to off so do the door lights. However if you lock the car before then the lights go off immediately - along with the courtesy lights.

Interior does not come on when driver door is open. I don't think i've got a dash light or buzzer....never seen or heard it....does the 1.4MPI comfort trim have those?

Will look for a guide on changing sensor....expensive/tricky?

£70 for a microswitch! grrrrr!!

I wonder where the switch is in models without CL as standard - and if it could easily be fitted to the "better" models. Might be a more reliable cheaper alternative.

Switch is in the catch just the same, mine doesn't have CDL or electric windows. The door loom is just for the speaker and the switch in the catch. Open the door and the light on the dash comes on and the interior light comes on. Interior light also fades out when the car is locked with key. Lights on buzzer works the same on mine also.

Which trim do you have, tech1e? It's really odd on mine...opening the passenger door doesn't cause a buzzer or door-open warning on the dash, but the convenience light does come on. Even with the boot open, there is no buzzer or dash display. So I assumed it's the driver's side microswitch thats bust....

Just gunna revive this one if, I've got the lights in mine, replaced the bulbs both sides but nothing happening. Courtesy light works alright, shows on dash when door open, lights buzzer etc. Could it be a fuse? If so...which one?

What have you replaced them with?

I blew the fuse and my led courtesy lights still worked. It was just the doors that didn't.

The fuse was for the interior lights

I need one of these lights!!

Standard 12v 5watts, same as what came out of it

If that was to me, i need the actualy unit as i snapped the clip

Sorry Trev, was to Timfok, I need another one though as one of mine's snapped. Tempted into blu-taking it if I'm honest.

yeh i was going to glue mine!
