dont think its coming from the door so i'd imagine you can hear it if you got in the passenger door, ll give it a go L8R

Fuel pump?

Yup - fuel pump.

As Alex and Manguish have said, it's the fuel pump.

Here is a list of some other noises you may encounter - all normal, but a bit worrying if you don't know what they are.

Sorry to go against the flow of opinion, but I believe it's the throttle servo calibrating iteslf.......

always thought it was the fuel pump priming for when your in and ready to fire the motor up, it doesnt happen if you open any other door.

Nope its the fuel pump priming.

The throttle wont do anything with the ignition off.

so what would happen if you got in the car through another door and started the engine?

i asked that one once... i suppose the pump would prime when you turned the ignition on.

i've started the car a couple of time from the passengers seat i must admit, doesnt seem to affect anything.

Superb thread - I wondered about a couple of those noises

cheers 4 the info!

I've always wondered what that was - I also noticed it was only the driver's door because I'm so inept at reversing into my garage that I often have to clamber across from the passenger side. Ta for the info!!!
