Stream with iPod or Stream MP3

Featured Replies

Hi. I have just got an 06 plate octavia vrs estate. It has a stream head unit and the seller chucked in a stream mp3 when I bought it as well. I have got the connects2 iPod / iPhone kit and just wanted to check which head unit would be recommended. As far as I can see they are the same apart from the obvious mp3 playing function. Which I guess won't matter once I have the iPod running?

Where have you guys ran the lead for your iPods?

Thanks, Rob

If you install the mp3 version I *think* you'll be required to swap a couple of wires round in the back, due to a slightly different earthing set up. I assume the guy also gave you the code for the new HU too?

Regarding the cable feeding, when I installed my (non ipod-specific) Connects2 module, I put it behind the top storage box (there's loads of space in the dash area behind it) and fed the cable up through the gap where the lid hinge goes.

Ideally I want to drill a hole in the back of the storage box and feed the cable that way, as you can hide the hole easily by having a much smaller one in the rubber insert, and pushing the cable through that. the cable does occasionally snag on the arm, but with some *slight* extra force you can still easily shut the lid.

You can see it here, along with my Brodit clip for my Hero:

If I was you I probably wouldn't be bothered to install the mp3 hu.

Thanks for the reply and pic. I have fitted it now and ran the wire down and up to the cup holder area so I can charge my iPhone in the car and use it as an iPod. The guides are brilliant on here. Especially the bit about not dropping the screws from the head unit. Didn't bother with the mp3 unit so it's up for sale.

I ran my cable to the ash tray and took the tray out. Ipod touch fitted a treat :)
