mk1 vrs boost leak?

Featured Replies

hi guys

how would i find a boost leak on a mk1 vrs as it seams to have a slight flat spot in 3rd? also it dumps pressure pretty low down if i let off is this stock???????????

any advice on intercoolers prob been asked a million times but want stock just improved upon seen forge smic but is it worth it come summer?

A boost leak will show up as generally flat performance in all gears, not just in one.

If you want to retain an SMIC, don't bother with a Forge kit, just do one of the arch mods (Swiss cheese, galvanised vent from DIY shop, Auti TT vent).

try a throttle body clean. It's normal for the boost to be dumped on lift off.

Also check the small breather hoses under the inlet manifold and metal plate just behind the dipstick, I had a flat spot that was most noticeable in 3rd when I first bought mine and found a hose with a 1 1/2" split in it, once replace it seems to have solved the issue for me.

+1 I had that split and the Y shape breather is also prone to split (I've replaced with an uprated 1) and now simplied the breather system which gets rid of a lot of the hoses
