I am posting on behalf of a friend so apoloogies in advance for the information.

He has a 2004 1.9TDI AUTO TIPTRONIC and the dash gear lights have a solid bar across them. It won't drive forward and gives up in reverse after a short time or when a little more power is required.

Is this a new/recon gearbox job? i think the CEL is on but I am guessing this is linked to the auto failure.

Any help / tips welcome as he is stranded without his car.

We do have lots of large deep puddles here in Wales since it started raining heavily, will check with him when it started playing up.

Its under the carpet and soundproofing on the passengers footwell

Scan will be next , but the way the display is playing up you may not have any communication with it.

I have spoken with him this morning and he told me that the AA did a scan and redceived several errors about gear selection (2,3,4).

Apologies for not having more information but he can't find the paperwork witht he errors on.

He will check the controller later today to see if it's wet.

Has he had the car long?

i believe that he has had it about 3-4 years as he had it when i first had my last VRs and that was nearly 4 years ago.
