1.2 TSI Wastegate

Featured Replies

Right, made a mod to my car as none are available for it yet. Yes I have put a universal air filter on it. A cone one to be precises. Car now sounds very nice in every gear (bar first) and the wastegate is happily lifting every time I change up (So I know it works now!)

But found now that every time I chnage gear it seems to be blowing out excess boost for the first 400-600 rpm then it closes and goes like normal. I don`t mind the little sneeze when I change gear but the hissing afterwards is a bit annoying.

Just wondering if there is any way to tell the electronic wastegate to open at slightly higher pressure to try and get rid of some of the hissing after I`ve changed gear?

Edit : thought it was more appropriate in this part of the forum as it may not just affect any Fabia`s that have the same engine.

is the 1.2 turbo'd and supercharged? as that hiss could just be the supercharger noise just now amplefied through the filter, the pssst noise when you list off is normal now the cone filters been fitted

no the 1.2 Is turbo only, wondering if the hiss is air going through the filter or the wastegate sticking open. Assuming its not the filter as its only between 1200-2000rpm then it fades away. Much more throaty though as it revs up.

Stick an open cone on a turbo car and a hissing noise is to be expected.

Its the noise the turbo makes spooling up, its also the noise it makes when letting excess boost go through the wastegate/

Dont like it, i suggest sticking the airbox back on ;)

Also you wil be losing power with this open cone air filter without a remap!.

I like the noise I just wondered if it was the turbo "blowing" boost out of the filter. If its not then thats good!

Still want the wastegate turned up to hold onto a bit more boost pressure and blow off a bit louder.

Don`t think I can get it remapped yet. Been told Yeti maps are available but not one for the Fabia for some reason.

It's not the wastegate that's making the noise it's the diverter valve. They use N249 which is now an electronic solenoid valve to control boost along with the regular wastegate and the noise is perfectly normal. With the Forge spacer on my twin charger the same noise is much more evident.

Not quite sure where you get that from but it's not true.

Also adjusting the wastegate won't do much as the boost is controlled via the ECU and the N75.

Almost all VAG cars react this way to aftermarket parts, exhausts have the same effect.

They only payback after its mapped to take advantage of it.

Also the airbox is tuned to maximise torque with specifically sized intake resonators, removing it reduces low rpm torque........... something thats important to the 1.2 engine.

Im not talking out my arse on this, i have a 1.2TSI and live in a country where tuning costs about 1/4th what it does in the west and so far i have held back on touching a thing until a remap gets released.

Gonna sound really stupid now but I don`t know much tech wise in an engine, so is there any way to upgrade or replace either the wastgate and the N249 thingy so it sounds bit nicer?

Not worried about it being louder (rather it didnt in fact) just want a nice noise rather than the slightly odd (but incredibly amusing) noise it makes now?

Assuming that (very obviously) none of the 1.4 TSi bits will fit.

And very amused to be told when the guys at the local tuners looked at the engine that thier Smart car has got a bigger turbo!

Hate to say this peeps but the 1.2TSI engine hasn't got a valve on it (YET ;) ) it only has a wastegate/electronic actuator.

Keep an eye out for all future 1.2TSI developments.
