Wierd Noise Passenger Rear

Featured Replies

was just wondering if anyone could help me out, i have recently been getting a kind of grinding noice fron the rear passenger side of my car and not sure

what it could be, thought i would ask on here before i take it to a garage. would appreciate if someone could give me some suggestions

What makes it change? Road speed? Bumps? Turning one way or another?

Usually you'd think wheel bearing initially...

or the adjusting spring has fallen off the shoes :giggle: either way it needs looking at asap as if it is the bearing it will do more damage to the drum and stubaxle

Shoes worn down to metal?

The first thing I would do would be to jack it up and spin the wheel by hand to have a proper listen. If you don't get any noise, try putting the handbrake on a little bit at a time and see if you get anything more than the usual light scraping sound when the shoes are just starting to contact the drum. While the wheel's off the ground you can also try to see if there's any play in the bearing.

On a related note, several members of my family have complained of noises from the passenger's rear, but only when I've been in their cars, it seems. :giggle:

it's the lack of noise from driver rear in mine ,silently but deadly( fprtunately I can blame the dog)

Shoes worn down to metal?

not likely tbh

we had this the other day on a caddy and it was a leaking rear wheel cylinder weaping onto the shoes, very unlikely but with all noises get them checked and dont leave it as believe me the bill will only get bigger
