Noisy transmission? Maybe

Featured Replies

Fabia vRS, 56 plate with 50000 miles on clock. Serviced every 10000 miles - I've noticed that I have what i can only describe as a 'whirring noise' coming from the front, reminds me somewhat of the 'flywheel noise' I used to have wth my old Morris Mnor - corr! that takes me back. Seems to start at around 40 - 50 mph and get louder as car accelerates to 60mph or so then eases of a little at around 70 - 80.

Overall performance of car is fine just this louder 'transmission noise'. Is it just old age. Any ideas or suggestions /font]

Is it in one particular gear? Mine's whined in second since it was delivered with 13 miles on the clock. 104000 later and it's still there but no worse. OTOH, if your noises happens at those speeds but across the gears, it could be a wheel bearing...

Mine does it in third, My Bora TDI did it too but second and third! Don't think you should worry!
