Who wants to live forever?

Featured Replies

for you motorsport with a yearn for the romantic past. It’s a few minutes of some shots showing (mainly) F1 guys and rally boys doing their stuff. So many people who are no longer with us :( It’s also quite striking how dashing the older F1 drivers looked. I don’t know whether it is because the close ups were shot on film (probably) of whether the drivers really did have a special aura about them (even more likely :) ). It just seems to make the whole modern motorsport scene seem more than a little sterile :(

Oh there is a great right hook (I think it’s a right hook?) from an F1 driver near the end :D

Awesome clip!!!

My fave bits are the blue scooby turning on a pin head, the silver clio going sideways, the drivers faces of anticipation for the race ahead and of course.......... the right hook! :D

The right hook was supplied by James Hunt, I think that was at the Canadian GP 1977.

He hit that poor chap awfully hard by the looks of it. Ah, where are the dashing racing drivers of today? :( Jenson Button is cute, but it's not the same. Mind you, Damon Hill had gorgeous eyes when you saw him with his race helmet on :)

Some of those clips reminded me of when I used to go and watch the RAC rally stages - standing inches from cars blatting past on the forest stages. I've also stood just behind the barriers on the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans with the marshalls and the cars coming past at 190mph+.

You can't do things like that any more because of all the 'safety' requirements - so I'd agree with the sterile nature of modern motor racing...

The film footage does look so much more romantic

His father, Graham (with handlebar moustache) was one of the true gentlemen of the sport. (I say...)

I really enjoyed that.
