8v coughing

Featured Replies

Hi,

yesterday, when starting my 2001 mpi, the engine has "coughed" a bit after the first few 100 meters, it shows as irregular pull for some seconds, then drives normally. The yellow engine light was blinking during the time, then came on. At a red light, I turned the engine off, started again, and drove on normally, with the engine light off.

Coming back from work there was no problems.

Today had the same experience. After the first 1-2 kilometers no problems. The engine light stayed on though, even after turning the engine off and on again.

Any ideas as to what this could be? The weather has been exceptionally moist and foggy the last days, after the snow started melting, it also shows as the starter taking a few more seconds to start the engine.

I'll take it to the garage on Monday. Think I'll cycle to work tomorrow :-)

I'm not sure but the light suggests an error code has been registered so it may be a good idea to find out what this is, it could point to something as simple as a faulty sensor.

Ah, yeah I think you're right.

My once in a year small problems also came back - the window switches dying and the radio not turning off when turning the engine off and withdrawing the key. Turning the engine on and off again, and everything works.

Also when 2-3 times a year are going to Germany (horrible engine noise for 4h :-), the yellow engine light usually switches on around when I hit the Danish/German border after 320km (200mi) and then at some later point turns off again. Car runs fine. Got it diagnosed the 2nd time as a minor electrical problem, and was told that I could drive back with it with no problems.
