Knocking from front end

Featured Replies

Driving down the motorway tonight I heard a constant knocking, turned down the radio and it sounded like I had a flat, steered to the left and right a bit and was convinced it was a flat as it made a faster louder noise when turning. Pulled over and all was fine, drove home listening and it's rotational meaning it's louder the faster I go etc. I pulled up outside my house and even stationary I can make the noise happen just turning the steering quickly. I also can't get it on full lock but I can't remember if I used to be able to, I always just presumed I wasn't able to because of wide wheels and lowered a lot.

Already had bushes done, it's a loud knocking noise, whole car vibrates when cornering at speed, like going round a big roundabout at 40mph... Dunno WTF it is and gotta drive down to Unit 18 on Monday.

Did you have the top mount bearings changed when you fitted coilovers, if not get them changed to rule them out.

Don't know a lot on maintenance but it wouldn't be a wheel bearing would it?

Sounds like loose wheels bolts to me !

if you can make it happen when stationary jack the front of the car up and get someone to do side to side movement on steering wheel have a feel and a listen around the wheel area doing all play.

sounds stupid but CHECK WHEEL IS TIGHT start with the basics my mates car was knocking badly when i looked at that his wheel had come loose. also check wheel isnt catching since you have had it lowered more.

if nothing found set off to unit 18 nice and easy id stay in slow lane doing bout 50-60 that way if anything does happen its only a serve into hard shoulder. take your breakdown card with you just in case

good luck

Sounds like loose wheels bolts to me !

Legend!

What the **** though, I personally fitted the wheels and know I done them up tight, yet all bolts on one wheel was loose, EXCEPT the locking wheel nut... I personally think someone done it because every other wheel was absolutely fine except the front left and I done them up exactly the same as the rest... :dull:

Glad it's fixed though, will keep checking them from now on... Love it when something can be 'fixed' like that, was thinking the worst hahaa

did you tighten them with torque wrench to correct torque?

if someone has been messing might be an idea to get them plastic wheel nut covers from a golf/audi just makes it tht little bit more effort to tamper. glad its sorted

Your meant to check tigthness of wheel bolts after the first 50/100 of putting them in

Seen it a million times, some scumbags probably tried to rob them and got stuck on the locker

Get the camera plugged back in Luke, in case anyone comes back for another go

Hope all goes well tomorrow - looking forward to the finished article B)
