Bypassed my n249 today

Featured Replies

Hi all, my car hasnt been running to its full potential lately, ever since the remap its been getting slower and quite juddery as you ease off the throttle.

Anyway spent a hour or so this morning and used a t piece in a vac pipe off the inlet manifold to run to the dump valve and runs so much better!! It ran the same for about 2 miles or so then just all of a sudded ran spot on! Power comes in so much better now!

I havent removed the whole system just in case it didnt make a blind bit of difference, but ill end up removing all the rest at some point!

Oh and just for the record its a Octavia Vrs 1.8t with 110k and stage one revo and no other mods :)

What exactly is this?

Mine seems really hesitant at times, and when gently throttling through the boost seems to almost be holding back..

Could this be the same thing?

Mine's not mapped though!

I was doing my OCC the other day and I felt very tempted to remove this and the secondary air system as well. Not because it causing a pronlem but from sheer fustration from getting in my way lol.

Im not too clued up on what it actually does, but from what ive read it just opens the dump valve suring boost spikes, traction control kicking in ect...

It has its own vaccum canister that can open the dump valve at full throttle when the manifold is boost pressure.

I guess like anything it can fail after sometime so it could be your problem.

The N249 allows the ECU to dump excess boost to prevent over run etc but the ECU opens it more times than it needs too AFAIK.

Mines been taken out for over a year with no problems.

my secondary air system n249 and n112 have been out over a year with no problems either infact i find the car a whole lot smoother without them

I had that problem for a few days a couple of weeks ago i just put it down to a bad batch of fuel as it seem to clear itself, altho i have resistor and have blanking plate on order to remove air pump etc

what bits do you need to do this? (links would be awesome) R-Tech recommended I did this when it was re-mapped but have never got round to it.

So all in, these are worth Removing?

How long will they take roughly to remove and whatnot?

So that resister is for the SAI Plug, Will the same thing work for the N249 Plug then, rather than making my own one?

I've no cash at the moment, but where can i get the Forge Blanking plate for future reference?

All in, if i remove the N249 and the SAI completely, what fully is needed? or does removing the SAI, using the 2 links above, incorporate getting rid of the N249 too?

Just thinking, If i crack on and do it all at once, it'll make my life much easier!

Thats the SAI Bypass i believe

Ye that's the SAI by pass, for future reference the SAI blanking plate can be brought from here http://forgemotorsport.com/content.asp?inc=product&cat=&product=FMEGRBP

My n249, n112 valves are still plugged in so no resistors are needed but all pipe work removed. I cant find links as I'm on my phone but it's pretty straight forward especially if your removing the SAI at the same time.

Yeah, I was looking at removing the N249 more than anything to be fair, but all out without causing problems at a reasonable cost sounds good to me!

Looking at that, The same resistor for the SAI could be used for the N249 too, going by other guides i've seen?

For an N249 bypass?

bring it round to me mate will do your n249 n112 sai and simplifiy your vac lines for a small fee

got a blanking plate and resistor and even a occ catch can with all the fixings

you would just need 2 metres of 3mm vac line and a new inlet manni gasket 1 litre of coolant

pm'd

hi all , if the secondary pump has failed or not working right would this throw up the 17705 code ?

Also what does this do ? to the car ?

Edited by VRS Nick

The secondary pump runs for the first 60-90 seconds of starting the car to warm the cat up iirc (I've been known to be wrong). Since removing mine I've not noticed any change on start up tbh.

Not sure on the code tho .

This is when living way up here in Scarborough highlights it's shortcomings. I'd jump at the chance to have this done and don't have the confidence to take stuff off the engine myself. There seems to be very few westallcs up here in North Yorkshire. Perhaps a move up here would benefit your health? The sea air can be quite bracing. :D

Dive in there and get your hands dirty! I haven't a clue what I'm doing half the time but it turns out alright in the end :)

+1 on that rob :giggle: seems all good tho!

@ skinnyman surely someone up your way ish has removed it all and could give you a hand? If your ever down this way (Mansfield) and have a couple of hours to spare and all the parts required to do it give me a shout

i would break more than i replaced if i did this :S

I don't mind diving in there at all, in fact I'd love to get the chance. Work and family seem to get in the way, that and what dubDEAN said. If I break something then I'm a bit stuffed with it being the family bus which is needed every day for something.

What I need is a lottery win or inheritence, buy the wife a nice 'sensible' Audi RS6 Avant to transport the kids in and then I can play with the Octy safe in the knowlege that it won't get me into trouble with SWMBO.

Sivrs, what tourist attractions do you have in Mansfield? If we could have our annual holiday there, we might be on for your offer. Can I convince the wife that Mansfield has more to offer a family than say, The Lakes, The East Coast or perhaps France? Would a week in your neck of the woods be a viable holiday destination, or would she see through my cunning plan? ;)

Centre parcs is about 5 minutes from me

Sherwood forest, is a nice day out if they like nature and folk law?
