bought a 2000 fabia sdi, it's got 124k on the clock and I'm not 100% sure when the last cambelt change was.

Two questions

1) where do I find the VIN number on the engine? (The garage said they don't know my VIN number and will need to have that to give me a price.. (or some bull****))

2) how much (roughly) do cam belt replacements cost? I know they vary garage to garage, but just a rough figure so I know if i'm being ripped off.

I'm kinda new to the whole car business and I'm not exactly experienced, so if the garage says it's going to be £500 for a cam belt.. I'd probably pay £500 for the cam belt! fml.

VIN is on the bottom-right of the windscreen, but it should be possible to go off the reg.

If the 500 quid includes a full service, it's not too bad a price, but if it's just the cambelt change on its own, you shouldn't have to pay more than about 300.

vin is on passenger side of the windscreen at the bottem and cambelt change should be about £300 top's on an sdi thay are very easy a dealer would prob's do it for that we would at our place better to get it done properly
